Recently I was approached by the safety department manager and told that an DOT officer had called claiming that one teams member was in violation of DOT rules. He was driving a 48 van with roll up doors and lift gate. The offense was running with the trailer roll up doors open and this was a violation of the rules. The driver was not stopped but I was wondering if anyone had any insight into which rule this might have broken?
The load was secure and with the lift gate in the up/folded position would have prevented any cargo from flying out under normal circumstances, even if the load straps/lock failed.
I have seen some local drivers have the swinging doors open when moving between stops, on the road, and I can see how this is dangerous but what safety violation would a roll up door cause?
