I really hate paperless Qualcomm generated logs. First, because it's going to show a 15-min. pre-trip before you go on Line 3 automatically. Second, you can't accurately record what you're doing. What if you WANT to check your tires, pour in some windshield wiper fluid?
By the way, a real study showed banging a tire DOES NOT tell you when it's going soft on these rigs.
Sometimes you wait cooling your wheels for 5 minutes before you drive, just because you're waiting for the quarter hour when the motion of your truck gets recorded. Third, the system kicks you to line 4 anytime you pull over to look at a map, and then you have to send three messages to the Logs Department to correct the computer entry. Fourth, when the satellite blips out, the Qualcomm log system goes completely wonky anyway. That happens a couple of times a day.
Paper logs are best, but they need bigger pieces of paper, and more space to write in. IMHO.
Just out of curiousity. Does the log program automatically assume you took 15 minutes to do your pre-trip? If it took you 30 minutes as I am thinking you are saying then it is having you falsify your logs right off the bat? I heard the paperless log rips you off of things you could be doing, but this is not right if the case. Please clarify that for me out of my own curiousity. ThanksOriginally Posted by Shebear

INCREMENTALLY, if the driver isn't careful, you are logged for extra time when the Qualcomm logs you at the quarter hour and you could more realistically, and to your benefit, adjust those 5 minutes in your favor.
You have to understand that the Qualcomm system is designed to satisfy the DOT minimum requirements.
Math has never been my strong point. And with PAPER LOGS, too many company Trainers and even Orientation Instructors tell rookies 'you can work the system' -- something like gambling at the slot machines, I guess.
They tell you NO WAY can you make a living and do it legal.
My head just spins from all this silliness.

The paperless logs CAN be ran just like a paper log PERIOD! Anyone who says different, doesn't know how to use the system.. this isnt the systems fault! I used the Peoplenet system now and it has the qualcomm system beat hands down.
