Cool O/O water tank operators in oil fields - what are they making?

Can anyone tell me what the O/O's are really making in the oil fields?

I'm hearing from a friend, ...who is getting information from ...a friend ...that O/O's of water trucks, in the oil fields in ND are making $20,000 per month.

I realize there may be several factors that are being left out of this kind of claim, i.e., how long has this friend of a friend been established up there? How many trucks does he own? Is the work consistent? Is he well-established with the oil companies with whom he contracts? What are his overhead expenses?

Can anyone take a few minutes to comment on this?

What are the O/O's really making in the oil fields of ND?

Thx

I met some oil field drivers in Texas a few months ago. According to them, owner operators were making about $7,000/week. That is before fuel or expenses and I believe pulling their trailers. I believe these are drivers who were hauling crude. I don't know if they pay water tankers the same amount or not.

Cool

I believe the water-haulers are making less (probably because it's less dangerous). But you got the word on the street, so that affirms what I've been hearing.

Thanks. ...now ...how to become an owner/operator. It's like Steve Martin, "First, get a million dollars ...and then ..."

That's not great money for such a rough gig, in my opinion. ND is a brutal work environment; roads suck, weather sucks, infrastructure and support sucks. Tankers are not cheap, your truck will take a beating, and the hours are long. I don't know what the real scoop is on pay (I heard much higher numbers a year or two ago) but there are regular gigs out there where you can come reasonably close to grossing $20,000 a month and your net will likely be higher.

I heard in the Bakken you should be making around $135/hr. using their trailer while rolling.
$100/hr. for all the other time spent loading and sitting. You do a lot of sitting.

A company driver (hoser) starting oot, can make aboot 7k/month eh. <<< oh ya...yer gonna have to beat that doncha know, eh.

I think those numbers from GMAN were in reference to Texas fields at $28,000 per month. I'm not sure what you mean when you say my "net will likely be higher."

The water guys do get paid less then oil haulers. A nice steel vacuum trailer runs about 50,000 to were a crude oil trailer runs about 90-140,000 depends on how you spec. it. These are new prices

The owner operators and drivers that I spoke with were pulling company owned trailers. They were not allowed to work more than 9 hours per day since they were on call and basically worked 7 days per week.
