It's a trade off. If you want a much better ride (which is where you spend most of your time), you have to suffer for the short amount of time when you're trying to get it into a dock. But, you do get used to the 20 or 30 inches added to your wheel-base after a while. Always wanted to try the wheel-base from one of those "DOUBLE-EAGLE" sleepers, but never got the chance. Never saw one of them backing into a food warehouse dock either. But, I did get to see one that parked his trailer on one space at a Pilot, than take up the next space with the tractor. I'm told the ride is very smooth with that wheel-base.

I drove a long hood for years. Loved it. Also drove short-hoods, and backed into docks without many problems. For the east coast, the COE is still boss. But, I survived there with a long hood too.

Many years ago, i was a company driver than, the boss got a couple "new" trucks, and needed to bring it to the yard. He asked me, if i could drive 13 speed? I said;- Does it has wheels? He looked at me with surprise, and said Yes....Than i can drive it.....After the moment of silence, he started laughing...

I'm not an O/O but my truck was down for a week and cuz I'm home most nights they gave me an old day cab as a loaner. WOW what a differance in turning! It almost started to make up for the crappy ride! Add that to the noise and fueling 2x a night.
One funny thinf tho, when I first hooked my trl and started forward (turning to the right) I cought the movement of the trl nose in the back window, it scared the shiete outa me! I slammed on the brakes thinking I dropped the trl! Got my ole truck back and life's good again.
