Default 97 volvo trailer hand valve

I have a 1997 Volvo WIA tractor. Truck is not equiped with a trailer brake hand valve. Does anyone know if I can install one, and what all I would need to acomplish this?

Look on the firewall in the engine compartment. If there used to be a "hand valve" in the truck the block and hoses are still there. You can also look under the dash and see if the hoses are strung to the dash. (doesn't Volvo place all their Johnnie bars on the dash instead of the steering column??)

I don't think this truck ever had one. I seen other volvo's this model have them on the steering column. Later models, '98 & up, have them on the dash.

Pretty easy to do. Get hold of an air schematic for your model truck that shows one, and add the valving that is missing.

The correct double check valve where you tee into the trailer service line between the trailer and the brake pedal is critical for safe operation.

You can fasten a universal hand valve to the steering column with simple hose clamps, or source a dash mount if you think you can fabricate a mount to suit you there somewhere.
