    Default cb's and navigation units.

whats a decent cb? i found this Cobra 29 LX - CB Radios Plus . found one "peaked and tuned" for $10 more. no clue what it means, i cant stand using a cb but i do need one.

as far as navigation.. what unit is good? my friend has a garmin 465t and he said its not that great. i have it narrowed down to the cobra and rand mcnally i watched tracer's review on the rand mcnally and it seems like a good unit.

What are you planning on using the cb for? Just communicating with customers? If so the cobra 29 lx will do you just fine I would spend the $10 for the peak and tune. I run a general lee. If you plan on using the radio regularly I would spend some additional dough and buy something more powerful.

I have the pc miler 450 unit I believe and its great! We hated the garmin 465t it was horrible!

I'm the worst person to ask about cb's - had nothing but crap luck with them since I started driving.

For navigation, I use CoPilot v8 Truck Laptop - it's treated me very good so far.

i wont be using the cb regularly. just road conditions and waiting at some shippers. i dont want to spend a bunch of money when a $50 cb would do the same thing. i'll have the regular whip antenna's.

i was thinking about the laptop gps but my luck it'll be stolen or it'll crash.

I have the same cb cobra 29x. I have no antenna, i rarely turn the thing on. If i do turn it on, its always someone talking about mexicans, blacks, and obama! Far, as the gps goes i have the pc miler 540. Its nice to have, I still call for directions.

Cobra cb will do you just fine. We used to use laptop gps and we were very happy with it. We still have pcmiler and deformed on the laptop as a backup. We had to have a laptop stand when we used the laptop regularly.

Just like what a lot of the others said, the Cobra will be a good one for ya. Just to talk to the guard shacks etc, and smokey reports and what not. Can't beat it.

Cobra (25 or 29) would be good, as would a Uniden (PC-68 or PC-78). Personally, I like my Galaxy's, but for something $50-100, the Uniden's and Cobra's are decent.

I've never had any luck with a used CB, always ended up with junk. If you're buying used, ask why its being sold! Bought a brand new Cobra 29, works great, has for over 3 years now.

I bought a used General Lee cb for less than $100 on ebay, and have had excellent luck with it. Sometimes you get a good one sometimes not!

You will need to set the SWR's its very easy to due if you have tunable antennas. Just Google how to set SWR's or check the book that comes with the CB Radio.

I use Microsoft Streets and Trips 2007 on a net book because I prefer a bigger screen than a "GPS" can offer and S&T lets me customize my route unlike any other that I have tried. And it only costs $100 for the software and antenna.

I have a BIG radio for sale if your interested.... Cobra 200GTL for $150 NEW

As for a GPS, I have a 4yr old Garmin C580 and it works great. I spent the $100 at Garmins site and got the lifetime map updates too.
If I was going to buy a new GPS tho, it would be the Mcnally TND-510 or 710. Saw it at MATS and it has a ton of cool features including routing points, trip info and bluetooth

Not bad at all! I think I too will be going with the 510 at the end of this year.

If you don't have a lot of use for a CB, you're wasting your money on one that's peaked and tuned. In all the years I drove, every radio I had was factory stock and worked just fine. A whole lot of you guys are lucky I'm not working in a shipping or receiving office. Factory stock radios are clean and easily understood. A whole lot of those that are peaked and tuned are garbled. So, if I worked in one of those offices, and I can't understand you radio, you won't get an answer. Getting the radio peaked and tuned is a waste of money.

That's the one part of trucking that I do not miss at all. All those "BIG RADIOS" that come across like a bunch of garbage.

When I was driving, all I used was a laptop with Streets n Trips. I called the customers and got directions in, then set up Streets n Trips to follow those roads and streets. No matter what you get, after a few years, you'll find that there are new street in new construction areas that are not in the software you're using. If you can get an update, you're fine. If not, you'll be investing in a new gps. I was able to update my software about every 6 months or so, and that kept it up to date at no additional cost.
