    Default Fuel Cards with savings

Hi, i wounder what fuel cards you guys using (O/O with own Autority), what discounts are you getting?

My self i got my own MC#, found schneider load i liked, they send me contact to sign up with them, it took 2 days to get approved, so i never took this load, but they offered me "carrier discount program", savings on fuel, repairs, tires. Sounds good, so tryed. They told me i can sign up with comdata or fleet one. I got fleet one. $75 application fee. Got new car in the mail, now had to call shneider so they can put me in theyrs system to get saving.
Now everytime i fuel i'm getting charged $1 for transaction, $4 every month for card maitenance fees, and email every morning with fuel prices at all TA and Petro truck stops accross US. From 2(petro) to 15(at Ta) cents per gallon discount. Everytime i fuel, i'm getting like $20 to $30 discount. Using them for 4 months now, no any hidden fees. I think its pretty good deal.

Any body have better deal, please let me know. Fuel prices at TA always little higher then at Loves or Pilot even they at same exit. Of course 15 cents makes big difference, but just currious maybe there is something better??? Thanks

Pilot and Flying J now offer a $0.02/gallon fuel discount if you have a PDCA card from Transportation Alliance Bank. Several other carriers who broker freight also offer fuel cards with discounts. Landstar, Bennett, JB Hunt and a few others also offer fuel cards with discounts. The catch is that you cannot load the card yourself. The broker/carrier must load it. For them to load it you must haul their loads. If you haul loads for any of them you can get set up with them to use their fuel card.

I always preferred having my own card, but it is tempting to take advantage of any of those discounts.

Card i have it is like my own card, got it from fleet one, they checked my credit, got approved for $2500/ per week spending. At the end of week whatever i spend this week they take directly from my bank account. And next week i got $2500 again. My card my money, just schneiders discounts. Actualy i heared, that schneider gets ~32 cnt of gallon, but gives me only half of it. Oh well, its good deal anyways.

Most of those who offer fuel cards with discounts don't pass all of the discount along to their owner operators or carriers. OOIDA has the Fleet One card and there are no monthly fees, but you also only get about $0.02/gallon discount on fuel, and those are not at all fuel stops.

Schneider just sent me a letter in the mail telling me all about their "lease drivers savings" and they now get .08 discount at all Pilot/J locations!

It is good when we can share information. One thing about the OOIDA Fleetone program. I don't believe that their is a setup fee. It has been a while since I have used their card, but I think they have either a reduced or no transaction fee when you make fuel purchases.

The best fuel discount programs I have found are:

If you sign up for the RTS credit reporting program, you get access to their fuel card. RTS Financial | Freight Factoring Services, Trucking Factoring Companies, Kansas City, Missouri

NASTC - NASTC ? Welcome To The National Association Of Small Trucking Companies - 800.264.8580

If you are going to factor, then Apex Capital has the best discount. Apex Capital – Factoring, Trucking Factoring, Account Receivable Funding

    Good Luck!!

What about cash? Are there any fuel cards that beat the cash price?

There are cards that offer different ways of getting a discount. TA has a cash plus program at some locations through Comdata. You usually need to lease to one of the major carriers or have one of the fuel cards that are tied to one of the major brokers. The cash plus is what that location pays for the fuel from their distributor plus the mark up rate. Some can get as much as $0.50/gallon discount. Brokers usually don't give that much of a discount to carriers who broker freight with them and use their fuel card. Most of them keep part of the discount as their profit. Most of the fuel cards that offer a discount is off the cash price. But, you will usually have a transaction fee every time you use their card. For the small carrier I like TCH. If you get one of the PDCA cards from Transportation Alliance Bank, it is treated like a TCH card when you buy fuel but there is no transaction fee. As I think I stated in an earlier post, Flying J and Pilot will give you the cash price plus a discount on fuel purchases if you use the PDCA card. It is a debit card tied to Master Card so you can use it for any purchases. It helps to track road expenses. I think they also offer a regular Mastercard. www.tabbank.com is their website.

The way the fuel cards work is that they want you to pay them weekly. You can either get a credit line with the issuer or put cash into the account and when it gets below a certain level you will need to transfer additional funds into the account.

Most of the fuel card companies are owned by major banks. Most will charge you a set up fee when you first open your account. The main thing that I like about using a fuel card is the reporting. Most of them will allow you to break down fuel purchases by the state which helps do your IFTA quarterly returns.

Most carriers will use one of the following fuel cards: Comdata, EFS, T-Check, TCH or Fleetone.

My Discount for the month of June was almost $2k for 4 trucks, that's calculated off of cash price. EVERYONE that is purchsing their own fuel should be involved in a fuel discount program. It is free money!! I had several fill ups this week that were less than $3.50/gal. The cheapest was $3.37/gal. My average fuel price for the month was $3.63

    Good Luck!

To reiterate what Scott has said, the NASTC / Fleet One program is pretty hard to beat. So far this year, with just one truck I've purchased 9454.56 gallons at a total cost of $34,165.63. Cash pump price would have totaled $36,232.09, so I’ve saved $2,066.46. Not to mention zero card use fee per transaction (TCH last I used it was $1.80 per purchase) AND the additional savings I’ve reaped by making my fueling decisions with the knowledge of what both today’s price will be and tomorrow’s price will be at each fuel stop in the network (TA, Petro, Ambest and a bunch of independents). I’ve been with NASTC for over 16 months and my only regret is that I didn’t find it sooner.

Oh, and I left out the part about how, by 10am or so, I know what the prices will be the following day and I know what they will be all weekend by Friday morning. There's also a guaranteed maximum price, meaning that for the rare situation where pump prices drop to below your discount price after it is set for the day, you are still guaranteed a one to five cent discount off that price as well. It doesn’t happen often, but depending on what wholesale prices are doing and what that particular retail market is doing, it can happen, especially on the weekend.
