    Default Link Belt 210LX

I searched the old posts for 'stepdeck versus flatbed" debate and rank posted something about hauling this excavator, Link Belt 210LX. I looked up the specs on the web and they are:

    Weight: 44,800 lbs
Total length: 30' 1" (the boom and bucket are folded and lowered to the floor)
    Undercarriage length: 14'9"
    Width (outside tracks): 10'6"
    Height: 9'7"

Do you guys think this load would work on a stepdeck with a 61" closed tandem spread? I can only take 34,000 lbs on the rear of the trailer. Based on my experience though as long as the load occupies the 26 ft on the lower deck (from the drop to the front axle of the trailer), and is centered against my turn signal, I can take over 49,000 lbs if the Conestoga is gone. I think the boom/arm would probably go in the back and the excavator should sit some 6-7 feet away from the upper deck.

I would load it like you said maybe a couple of feet closer to the upper deck with the boom at the back. I wouldn't trust the manufactures weight though. Use your suspension air gauges on the truck and trailer and definitely axle weigh it.

So, you think the closed spread of 61" shouldn't be a problem, as long as the machine is properly positioned on the deck?

Shouldn't be a problem. Just picture the length of the track (15 feet) as a 44,000lb box. The boom will add a little weight to the back thats why I suggested moving it forward a little

I really need to visit here more often I guess.

I don't think we scaled that excavator, but If it was over axle and you couldn't make it right, I think they would let you permit the axles. It's cheap.....like $.03 per ton*mile or something like that. I try to avoid the heavy stuff but we did move a 77,000 lb piece on a tandem RGN one time from Davenport, FL to Bobcaygen, ON. It was over width anyway so they just tacked on the extra weight surcharge to the cost of the permit.
