Default What Ever Happened To The D.O.T. Air Pressure Maintain Requirement?

I remember when going to truck driving school in 1991, there was a D.O.T. requirement for a vehicle to maintain air pressure; i.e. you applied something like 30 PSI brake pressure, and vehicle main tank pressures should drop no more than X number of PSI in one minute's time.

My new (2006) Volvo does not have a gauge for main air pressure tanks nor for applied brake pressure either!!!

Without those gauges, there is no way to verify D.O.T. compliance (if it still exists, that is).

    What is up with that?

All kinds of mechanical/electrical violations on the old one and proud of the lack of repair.

Violations? I passed my latest D.O.T. Inspection with flying colors, and my current Inspection was still current. You are simply blowing hot air!

Vehicle is not so equipped from the factory. All it has is an audible & visual alarm when air drops below acceptable (probably 60 PSI).

They probably figure the average idiot from a three-week truck driving school would only get confused if he has too many gauges!!!

Sounds like that truck fell into the hands of the right person then.

Nothing could be further (or is it farther?) from the truth. I attended Mid Florida Tech in Orlando from sometime in October, 1991 to near the end of December, a full 8 week grueling course, where each & every pupil personally drove a minimum of 2,000 road miles each. We took trips to south Florida, NE FL, SW FL, and an overnight trip trip to the panhandle.

Never would have passed having to plug in the trailer light cord to operate the rear tractor lights.(you can't have a manually interrupted electrical source)
Headlight wired to the marker light cicuit is another electrical wiring violation.(though it may not be easy to catch)
You can find someone to give an annual inspection even with parts dragging on the ground.

Truck could not be manufactured for sale in the US without an air gauge and warning system.

Did your '06 happen to be truck# 60848? That is the number that is still on the top left corner of the back of my "new" truck.

EXACTLY..... it has air gauges, look closer.

God I'd hate to see you behind the wheel of my 74 Pete with the 23 gauges it has, I think your head would explode

Going by your screen name, I am going to guess your a "foreigner" as well. Seems like you guys all think Volvo's are the BEST TRUCKS IN THE WORLD.... I think it's because they match your jogging pants and mandals

No foreigner here. You are simply mistaken. In fact, back in '05 when I got my 1st Volvo, I actually hadn't even heard of the VED12 engine; I was only familiar with Cummins, Cat, and Detroit. I didn't want a Cat because they are fuel guzzlers. My only choices were Cummins or Volvo. But I took a chance on the Volvo engine & WON!

I personally don't care for Volvo's but then again, I have never owned one. I think the interior is terrible looking. It's not much different than there cars. It's just a prefference I guess. I just tossed you into the sterotype because I dont know many guys from here who buy a Volvo as a personal truck is all..... then again, I live near Chicago LOL

As far as engines, a ACERT CAT is good on fuel. My T600 avg 6.1mpg pulling machinery on a 55T

I preffer a old 12.7 Detroit or a Big Cam Cummins myself, tho I have been looking at a brand new 389 w/ISX (No UREA)
