My recent post about Canadian lumping fees got me thinking: what **Canadian** laws & regulations would you change if you could? What would make your trucking business more efficient and/or environmentally friendly?

    Where would one start?

    - speed limiter legislation
    - spread axle rules in western canada
    - wheelbase rules all across canada

Other than those 3 it's not too bad.

I'm assuming that you'd like the Western provinces to adopt the standard spread axle. Could you expand on the last one?

Most provinces allow 244", it gets really complicated after that because each province has its own rules for 244"+ trucks. BC absolutely does not allow it except for tri-drives.

Truck ECM's speed governing. I'm waiting till the end of July, and if noone stops me to check my stupid 65 MPH limit, I'm turning it up to 70 MPH. The joke is I don't even drive 65. All I do is 60 MPH (96.5 Km/h) but I need at least 10 miles an hour "buffer" for safety, when it's critical I pass someone quickly.

Log books: why can't they make the HOS rules universal for US and Canada?

    Everything else is okay

I would've thought that there would be more complaining(!) What about APU's - I read somewhere that companies were unsure about investing in them because gov'ts (US?) haven't decided on emmissions regulations on them.

Personally, I'd like to see the gov't come down on idling - an activity that doesn't do anyone any good (and not just trucks either.)
