    Default Insurance?

    Hi Everyone,
My insurance is going to renew this March can anyone tell me what the going rate is for a Owner Operator? I fell like I might be paying to high. I'm not sure. I run about 30 states and I am paying about $7,500.00. Can anyone give me a little help? Is that the going rate or can you tell me where to find it cheaper?

    Thanks,
    Charles

I assume from the rate you quoted that you are running your own authority? My insurance was with Northland. I am in the process of changing to a different company. They used to be the cheapest. That isn't necessarily so any longer. I will let you know when I get some of these other quotes back. Where do you live? Does that rate include liability and cargo only or collision? I paid about $6,000 per truck last year for liability, cargo and collision.

How long have you had your CDL? and authority? My first year with own authority is 6954.00 after two years it should drop some. That's with Northland.

Thanks everybody for your help. I live in Texas and the quote included lib, cargo and coll. I guess I will shop around a little bit more. G-man if you get a cheaper quote let me know I would appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Charles

Gman, I just got a quote from Northland for $6900. Thought is was a little high. That was truck & trailer. Both 04's

I too, am shopping for a new provider. If you find something let me know also.

I am changing because I will be moving to GA very soon. Better rates then NY! I 'll have my house there in a few days, and I will begin to change address's for everything.
I can use power tools, and I'll think about doing your dry cleaning if the rates are good.

I just spoke with an insurance company today. She is still looking for a better rate for me. So far her rates are not much different that others that have given me a quote. I did find out something rather interesting while talking with her. Rates in Alabama are much higher than some other areas of the country. I was really surprised their rates would have been any higher than Tennessee, Georgia or any of the other surrounding states. Where you house your equipment can make a major difference in premiums. I do think we are beginning to see more of a buyers market in insurance. Some are more in a mood to negotiate a lower rate according to one insurance broker with whom I spoke.

I will be glad to pass along any good rate that I receive. Perhaps if we start sharing good rates and follow up with these companies we can all get better pricing.

I was going to suggest that. Tell the agent you have other interested partys and we can get a better rate.

Sounds good to me. If I come up with anyone I will also pass it along.
