I just got to thinking, man, they spent thousands of dollars to train me and to outfit my truck. In the meantime, I did a pretty good job (got along fine with everyone, really reliable, not afraid to stay out with the freight, no accidents or incidents- thank you Jesus!)
I also thought about my changeover costs, since even the other tanker outfits don't use the equipment I do- Miller for one doesn't.
So, I sent an email in asking if they would find me a position with one of the other terminals. Apparently, someone thought that was a fine idea, got on it, and I'm supposed to call back this afternoon about my first dispatch next week!
Happy, happy, joy, joy! I tell you what, though, I'm improving my appearance. Like I said, I did a pretty decent job the first time around, but I'm going to tighten it up a little. There's nothing I can do to make my company stay in business, but I can beat a lot of O/Os on cost and in willingness to sit in Timbuktu waiting on freight. I can't make the company stay in business but I can at least try to be one of the last O/Os standing if guys start parking their trucks.
What's the new budget, $4 trillion dollars!? Tax revenues are way off!? Hang onto your hats!
GOOD DEAL!!!!! Im happy for you! really

I mentioned that in one post............LOL..........I figured even those dopes over at QC would figure it out eventually, a little slow, but at least it worked out for you.
I'm always "employed"! Whether i have a job, or not. My boss will not fire me...
Pessimist,- is just well informed optimist!
So which terminal did you land in??
Which terminals have room for trucks??

That's excellent news!

Hey, that's really nice. And, BlooMoose and everyone.
Joliet, OTG. With me, they sound like they're fully staffed, though not saying they don't keep more or less O/Os, not just one magic number.
Joliet is physically about the nicest terminal we have.
I don't mean to be a downer about economic projections. It's just that I follow politics and the numbers, and the numbers we see nowadays- just mindboggling, outta this world! Then you read about all the crookedness in Washington and on Wall Street (naked short selling, Russian mafia...)
Rutherford is supposed to go over some financial or economic data this weekend. Should be pretty interesting. But, I'm doing the family thing instead.

Nice of you, Ridgerunner.![]()
That is good news, lowrange. I am glad things worked out.
Maybe the economy is rebounding 'cause I just started a new old job too! We all gotta work real hard to pay for the stimulus, bailout, bailout of the bailout, and anything else Washington is handing out.
Thanks Gman. Thanks Rank. It wouldn't hurt my feelings any if we had a post-winter rebound. Some of these things we're looking at in the macroeconomy might be years playing out. More time to get ready.
I'm not debt free. My assets are significantly more than my debts, but I still owe about $14k at about 4-5%. So, paying that down is one thing.
Then, there are things I need to do around the house, things I need. And, I don't have a cash reserve, just a lot of readily accessible credit.
I only bought my truck and started working really consistently 3 years ago. I'm not where I want to be, but I know I'm in better shape than a lot of people.
I understand that. But do you really believe, that coming time, will let you prepare for anything?
Cause personally, i believe it's gonna be more like "surviving" time....

There does seem to be a little positive movement in freight. It has a long way yet to go but any positive movement is good. I think we will continue to be in survival mode for a while. This situation will not go away over night. It will take time and I think we will see a slow recovery. Our taxes will increase contrary to what Obama and the chickencrats tell us. I would put back as much as you can and not rely on credit. The way things are going your credit may not be there when you need it. Good credit is no longer a guarantee that you will get the money you need when it is needed. I would not count on anything but the cash you have on hand.
I hear you on survival, Solo. I don't know how bad it will get or how long it will take for us to bottom out. For all I know, we could reach bottom in 20 years. There could be a short term bump this summer- I just don't know. I just think it's important to get it while the getting is good, and be ready to adapt when it isn't.
Good point on the credit, Gman. I've always just taken it for granted.
