    Default unattended toll booths

When you don't have change and you don't feed the beast, does it ever come back to haunt you?

Chicago has a lot, boy, I hate them.

I have been short twice in Chi town and tossed in what I had and never had it come back and bite me in the butt, but I do know people who have gotten bills and tickets in the mail for running those change demons.

If you run Chicago a lot it wouldn't hurt for you to get yourself an I-Pass or EZ pass. That way you don't have to worry about having change.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

Yes you will get a notice in the mail for the toll plus a $20 fee for missing it. I got 2 when my ezpass wasn't reading properly. A friend of mine got one for $1,300.

When I was brand new to OTR, I found one of these in West Chicago somewhere. One of the many things no one bothered to mention to me. I scrounged the laundry fund and tossed it in there, mad as hell.

when you run around Chicago as much as we do it doesn't take long to rack up that much. Some days you could do 10 or more missed tolls at $20 a pop plus the toll fee, some of which are $8.

Whew!!! I hate that about Chicago. Oftentimes I don't have the change, and I'm not lying, sometimes I'll put in the 30 cents car fare instead of the five axle. Probably not the only one.

I believe, as long, as you put something in, you are gonna be OK. That was my experience couple times. If you'll just run thru, you'll get a "picture. I'm just guessing....

One time I pulled into the EZ-pass lane on I-90 and said "I'm in the wrong lane I don't have an EZ-Pass what do I do?"

"Get out of here you idiot"

Best part is she had no idea how much I owed.

Great trucker story Hand! I am sure the starry eyed newbies at the lunch counter ate that one up.

Illinois doesn't have, nor have they ever had attended I-Pass only lanes. Before the advent of open road tolling, every manned booth was I-pass capable. Next came the unattended I-Pass only 15 mph lanes, then open road tolling, but the manned lanes have always had I-Pass readers.

Before you fire up the typical BBR caught in a lie reply, I have been trucking around the Chicago area since well before they even dreamed up I-pass. As a matter of fact, I have had I-Pass from the beginning, when all charge accounts were changed from cards to I-Pass. So save the CYA, turn it around on me reply for the the lunch counter or the CB.

I'm with PTD on this one, aside from the obvious that he pointed out, a toll attendant would never give you a free pass, if you don't have the cash you get a pink slip and mail the tollway a check.

I also understand that this thread is about the Illinois tollway, so it made sense that he was referring to I 90 in Il. Unless of course he just decided to key up from the back row and throw his 2 cents in regardless if it has anything to do with the topic at hand, which does happen from time to time with truckers.

Rank's always been a pretty good guy. He said EZ pass, not I pass. And, though we talked about IL, the title is simply "unattended toll booths"

i think he was talking about I 90 in NY, if you go through an ez pass lane in NY with no EZ pass, you just keep going and they will send you a bill.

and heres a tip about MA, they only take EZ pass in the marked EZ pass lanes, not all cash lanes take it!
