    Default isx or s60?

a few trucks i have narrowed down have the 2 motors.. witch do you guys like? i currently have a 515 s60 in my company truck now.. i honestly think it runs like garbage, it smokes worse then a old mack.. but the fuel milage is great.

another company i used to have had a isx and i loved it..

    truck 1: 05 volvo 670, 400st isx 3.55 gears 10 speed

    truck 2: 05 midroof columbia 455/515 s60 3.42 gears 13 speed.

I would go with truck. I never did like the isx. Most shops I talked to say they are junk and very hard to work on. I always liked the s60.

I prefer the series 60. They have proven themselves over the years. If yours is smoking and doesn't have much power then you have something going on with the engine. The old Detroit's used to smoke but the series 60's should not have the same problems. If you prefer the ISX then perhaps that is the one you should buy. Many people like Cummins. I am not sure there is that much difference between them other than personal preference.

the truck i drive every day is a ryder truck. power is not a concern.. the smoke though.. jeez.. the trailer is ruined from the truck.. its latest thing is when really working it it'll buck smoke and slowly get back in to it. the egr was replaced back in dec.

out of the 2 trucks mentioned, witch do you think will bring the best MPG?

Ask them to make a printouts from both trucks ECM. That might give you some idea.

    funny you should say that.

the volvo is a old swift truck. the dealer said 6.5-7.5

the freightliner said the fleet was getting 6-7 with it @ heavy weight.

i always helped my dad buy trucks and we never cared about the fuel milage, always went on what was the most reilable with the best deal..

in this point it'd be the 378 pete with the cat.. but.. the fuel milage. lol

Stay away from Volvo parts are $$$$ for repairs and good luck getting some parts that have to come from overseas.
I have a friend with a 04' VN670 thas eats steer tires about every 70,000 to 80,000 miles been in the shop many times Volvo can't find the prob with it says nothing is wrong also delt with the axle mfg. they said the only thing that might help is to change out the whole front axle(the front axle on the 04' and up cannot be bent for adj. nor can any of it be rebuilt not even the kingpins or hubs have to buy new hubs $500 each woreout KP = new axle.)Has also had elec problems,a/c probs and on 3rd water pump and 5th egr valve with the ISX truck now has a little over 500,000 miles on it.He bought this new and said last Volvo he would ever by.

My buddy and I both have volvo's. Mine is a 04 670 with volvo 465 hp. His is late 03 (looks like 04) with 500 hp cummins. His truck has had problem after problem after problem till it finally just put him out of business. Mine on the other hand has been bulletproof and very few minor problems. It does 7-8 mpg with no problem. The last time I was at the dealer they had a 02 volvo 770 with volvo 465hp motor but pre emission and the ecm on that truck showed 10.2 avg mpg!!!

all though.. after driving a mbe motor i think i'd take the volvo over it.

Then they adjusted the fuel correction in the ecm and it dropped to 5.3 just like my friends volvo

Paper and pencil, dont believe anything anybody says. My W9 gets between 6-7 running the mountains always over gross, yes, believe it.

DANG! I must be a lousy driver! after 24 years in the business, I have never seen a truck that would get over 6.5 mpg consistently. Of course, I have never used an APU, and I DO insist on staying warm, or cool, as the case may be. That means a lot of Idling.

I have taken a 450 Mercedes engine from 5.42 to getting 7.4 using HHO technology, which also added approx another 50 HP, and cleaned the engine in the process, but 10.5? No Way!

I used to love my ISX, but the last six months have been pure madness. i've had several issues that have left me out of service, lack of parts availibility, and parts excessively overpriced!

I prefer the ser 60. as far as the smoking goes. mine smokes. since I had the last overhead done it smokes 5 times worse. but I got much more power then ever before. dont know what the shop did. seems everyone does overheads a lil bit different. so that may have something to do with what you are seeing. as for parts. I want to go with the likely hood that if I am on the side of the road, I can make a call & have parts available, inexpensive & brought out to be installed. det ser 60 is like a 350 chev motor. parts, & people who work on them are everywhere.

over 10 years 1.4 mil miles still going.. no major wok done, still ave 6 mpg winter 6.5 - 6.9 summer.
