reefer units

Can you guys tell me what reefer maker you prefer and why? Also, is there a really big difference between spring ride n air ride? Last but not least what would be considered high hours on a reefer unit?

I can say that I prefer the ThermoKing Reefer units and I prefer the GreatDane Trailers. Both seem to me to be built a little better then some of the others. Utility trailers ar OK I guess but they seem to be a little less in the quality department.

As far as air ride, I presume you mean on the trailer, ther is no comparison. Air Ride on a trailer will make a greater difference then air ride on the tractor. Air ride all around will make most trucks ride like a car if it's setup right. Especially if you have an air ride cab.

well I myself dont care what reefer maker it is. as long as it's not home grown, or real green. as far as your question... what would be considered high hours on reefer.. I went one time, for 12 hours high on reefer..

Only thing I don't agree with on that is the Great Dane. If your running a light truck they are ok but most I have ran are very heavy, they tend to get alot of water in the walls and then freeze. I like the wabash trailers myself. They just seem to be better to me.

I meant that I see some untis with 25K hrs and higher. Are these units considered high hour units or not? When do you have to start thinking about rebuilding or replacing the unit.

I've pulled reefers almost exclusively for the last 5 years and the company I used to work for would keep their trailers for 15 years, they would get Great Dane trailers and Thermo-King or Carrier reefers, I would see some reefers with over 40,000 hours on them. And yes the Great Dane trailers are heavy, I used to use Wabash Utility trailers when I did food service and they were garbage.

A thermo king dealer told me the engines were good for 30000 hours, less for the compressor.

I prefer Carrier for the simple fact is that's is all I have. Uniformity makes it a lot easier to service and maintain. I have 3 Wabash trailers and have been happy with all three. Just bought a Great Dane last week and haven't received it yet so no thoughts on that yet.

For the hours on the reefer, depends on what you are going to do. I will trade mine in long before 30,000 hours.

I myself dont have any trauilers as im not even a driver yet but all of my friends that drive they pull Utility 3000R trailers with carrier units. And all seem to be happy with them

I will take Thermoking over Carrier any day of the week. I've just had bad luck with Carriers.

I have 2 of the Utility 3000R trailers and a Wabash. The wabash is lighter and seems to hold temps better.

I miss my old 1989 Timpte reefer. That was a damn good trailer.
