    Default Extreme truck stops

I watched "Extreme Truck Stops" on The Travel Channel last night (Tuesday night). Man, I couldn't believe that truck stop on I-80 in Iowa. THAT PLACE IS HUGE! Anyone here on CAD been there? And the show also highlighted a chrome shop somewhere (can't remember exactly where) that features all sorts of chrome stuff for a rig and lights too. The manager of the store told of one example where a trucker spent over $30,000 for chrome for his truck. I can't believe that some folks will spend so much cash on chrome and chicken lights for their truck! 8)
"Looks like a legend and an outta work bum look a lotta like Daddy," Little Enos Burdette.
    Hook 'em Horns!!
"Life is hard. It's harder if you're stupid." John Wayne
    "Talk to me Goose".
"What we're dealin' with here, is a complete lack of respect for the law," Sheriff Buford T. Justice.

   LOL...That "Chrome" was probably the one right there at Iowa80. Iowa80 has smaller versions of it's Chrome shops...at it's smaller TS's...like the Iowa80 behind the Petro in LittleRock(Galloway RD).

I didn't see the show. You must be talking about Little America or the Iowa 80 truck stop. Both are rather large.

That's the Iowa80 T/A in Walcott Iowa. I make it a point to always stop there and will drive longer just to make it there.

It's a T/A but the restaurant is privately owned and run so the food is good!

It's a woman who owns it. She just built a do it yourself dog wash there also next to the truck wash.

    My favorite truck stop.

The food is good at the Iowa 80. I really like the decor.

I think the restaurant is the only thing left that the original gas station family owns. The rest was bought out years ago by T.A.

I caught the last 1/2 of that show last night. I believe the chrome shop was somewhere in Texas.

And, honestly, I don't know anyone here that hasn't been to Iowa 80

Ive been to Iowa 80 quite a few times. It is quite large.
As far as T/A owning it...I may be in error, but I do not think T/A "owns" Iowa 80. From what I understand Iowa 80 is ndependently owned. T/A sells its fuel.
Nothing inside that Truckstop resembles a T/A. Except for the fuel and the kiosk.
Maybe others, here have a better history of Iowa 80.
I remember Iowa 80, about 25years ago, and the original building, before all the add ons. Considerably different today vices then.

I thought it was interesting that they own the Cat Scale Company...that has got to be a big money maker for them.

Iowa80 is not owned by T/A. It's privately owned by a woman. They only have the T/A franchise. Same as McDonald's, most are privately owned but franchised.

well this proves that the Iowa 80 truck stop is indeed a fine place to stop! the truck stop placed 10th in the nation in the Cintas America's Best Restroom Survey (dated 27 aug 08). the survey focused on style, exceptional hygiene, and open acess to the public. other notable finalists included: jerome bettis'grill 36 in pittsburgh, grand central terminal in nyc, and in first place : the hermitage hotel in nashville. pretty heady stuff huh?? 8)

Iowa80 has a God section too although it's limited. I saw a nice chrome piece for the front of your grill, it said.
