Hey folks, I just got home today. West Coast flatbed freight is dead!!!!!
I spent the last 3 weeks going from California to Washington and back.
Truck gave me a little trouble with the A/C going out on me when it was 105 degrees, and then my oil pan gasket went out on me in Portland.
I managed to get 6.2mpg in these states as I made it a point to drive 55 the whole time, but on the way back to the east coast I got 6.4 running 67 :? . Only thing I can figure was the lack of mountains to mess things up.
My rates have been anywhere from 1.72 to 2.50, money has been pretty decent except for all my time spent waiting on loads. I was gone 8 weeks , and sat still for 3 of those 8. Hopefully I can hang in there until February when freight picks back up.

thats not good. I have been looking on the load boards just to see what freight is moving where. burns harbor usually has 900 flat bed loads coming out of a 50 mile radius. looked the other day & only 100 coming out. in decatur al. usually 100 or more flatbed loads coming out yesterday there was only 5 loads coming out of a 40 mile radius.

I dont ever think it has been this slow at this particuliar time of year. I dont look for it to pick up until spring. march april.

Yea, freight is slow alright. If you can get $1.50 you are doing good. But I know thats not good for us all. If we can all hang in there, we will get busy very soon. There should be alot of freight going down south where the hurrycane came through. But I have not seen any yet.

There was talk about putting a bunch of us on FIMA hold after the storm but that never came about.

But yes, it's the worst I have seen it in a long time. Elections are right around the corner (freight usually slows at this time), and the economy is in the toilet. All we can do right now is watch our pennies and try to hold on.

    You're right.

I've only been to Decatur ONCE in the last few months and that was to drop some stainless tanks at the new dogfood plant...

It sucks...especially since I just live in Florence.

I'm sure if they were spec'd the same you could tell a difference but a large car may have different specs than an areo truck. Just some food for thought!
You know damn well there's a huge difference, usually about a full mpg, between an aero and a classic.

That's not to say a classic can get 6.5 maybe even 7, but put the same drivetrain in an aero, and it will always do 8 to 10 tenths better.
Have a Century and 2 T-600's and a Classic XL. The Classic has by far the most horsepower and torque and gets the exact same fuel mileage with a flat as the aeros do with reefers.
