It says in my Rand McNally truck atlas the different states' tax rates. i would average the rates for the states you run and multiply that by your miles to get a *rough* estimate.
Mud, sweat, and gears
Average pay is around 100.00 a quarter give or take regardless of where you run. Each state that has a higher fuel tax has a higher pump price.

you said 100.00 per quater in all or per state if its per all i need some help
My fuel tax jumps around from 38/mo to a creit sometimes. Like said above, it depends where you run and how much fuel you're buying (and where).

im stupied i guess cause my fuel tax isnt figuring that way can someone please help
You're prolly smarter than me, I don't file mine- my carrier does. Hopefully an independent can give you a more black and white answer.
But, if you have the road atlas, you can calculate it (almost) to a T if ya know how many miles you ran in what state, and how many gallons you bought per state, per quarter. I'm sure the tax info can be found online somehwere.

The only way to get accurate rates is to go to their website. Most states maintain the same rates but some may change from one quarter to another. I believe this is the correct website address.

got the total miles per state and fuel bought and average miles per gal but must be figuring something wrong cause my fuel tax is coming up to around 1300.00 and everyone i talk to says that theres no way i shouldnt be paying that much can someone tell me what im doing wrong

:You drive 215 miles in AL and buy NO fuel. Your truck gets 5mpg(varies)and you use 43 gallons in AL. If AL's fuel tax is .16 a gallon than you owe AL 6.88 for that one trip. IF you buy 200 gallons in GA and you drive 200 miles in Ga than you will get a credit from Ga.IF GA's fuel tax rate is .22 a gallon than Ga owes you 34.00. That is how it works.

I'd have to disagree! When i paid no attention where did i buy, I've had paid about $300 an average. Than, one quarter it was $600 :shock:Originally Posted by DD60

ripp what states are you mostly buying in? What states are you mostly travelling in?
it's possible you're average MPG is too low.
Are you using the IFTA return? It's pretty straight-forward. Sounds like you're not crediting your tax paid on gallons purchased.

I believe the biggest fuel tax I have ever had to pay to date is about $175 and that is for two trucks running. Most of the time it runs less than $100 per quarter. Without seeing how you are doing your tax return there is no way to tell for sure what is going on. We are all just speculating at this point. You may want to fax a copy to the state where you file and ask them to check the form for you. My state will do that for me.
