Oh yea, well...you still look like a bat and you drool when you sleep
"Hobby trucker" is not a "name", or(and) "insult"!Originally Posted by Jagerbomber

Pessimist,- is just well informed optimist!
It would really be a drag to be called a tourist trucker. Boy, I'm glad I'm not called that!!!
I read through all of part 1,2 & 3 and saw that point brought up many times. Too many times IMO. I saw absolutely nothing posted that would make someone think they could jump into the same situation without a large chunk of money to get started, to compensate for the delay in getting paid, to deal with the costs of keeping the truck on the road and to cover expenses at home.Originally Posted by Twilight Flyer
If anything, those posts helped me to realize just how costly it is to get started in that situation. I'm sure the intentions were good in many posts but really, as a new reader, it seems some posters think the large majority of us reading it are too challenged to absorb some basic math.
Well, off the read part 4![]()
Calling someone a "hobby trucker" is not an insult...nowhere near it. A "hobby trucker" is someone like Steve...fresh off another successful career with money in the bank. If it doesn't work for Steve, he's not going to be hurting. I have nothing against Steve or his success - I think it's great and a lot of guys would love to be in his position. There's no doubt that its' enviable.
But the opposite side of that coin needs to be presented and several posters do that quite well. For your average owner-operator wannabe, doing things Steve's way is a recipe for financial disaster. It won't take much of a curveball to totally bury someone that isn't fully prepared, especially in today's monster world of fuel and operating costs.
However saying you look like a bat and drool in your sleep IS :PCalling someone a "hobby trucker" is not an insult...
Them's fightin words....![]()

Just curious , at what point does one get elevated from "hobby trucker"to professional trucker? :?
Unless I do look like a bat and drool in my sleep. However saying you look like a bat and drool in your sleep IS
It's a paperwork thing. You have to fill out a bunch of forms, take a vow of celibacy, and live with mountain monks for 6 months eating mothballs and moldy cheese. Then they give you a plaque and you're a certified professional trucker.Just curious , at what point does one get elevated from "hobby trucker"to professional trucker?
Well , I,ve filled out all the forms , taken the vow and there is a convent
within 10 miles of my house with a bunch of ugly nuns , will that do?
I'm not eating balls, moths' or otherwise!
If the nuns are ugly, you get the Super Trucker plaque. If they look and sing like Sister Mary Roberts from the movie Sister Act, take her up to a cabin in the mountains and forget about the rest of the world.Well , I,ve filled out all the forms , taken the vow and there is a convent within 10 miles of my house with a bunch of ugly nuns , will that do?
That is Pro tourist thank you!! :wink:Originally Posted by SteveBooth

Well I think I saw one that looked like the flying nun but she flew by too fast to get a good look.
I guess people think this place is a democracy?
Yes, but they didn't fly so I'm sure it doesn't count.Originally Posted by tootie04
According to section 1 paragraph 2 Of the Hobby Trucker Handbook , Monks always take precident over Nuns even if they(Nuns) are classified as having the ability fly with one excepton. That exception being as stated in Paragraph 4, the Nun or Nuns are onelegged. :P
