Default Eating in the truck....heres why...

Here is a good example of why some of us eat in the truck....It is NOT because we are poor! These are fast food restraunts but I am sure truckstops are just as bad or worse.

    10. Taco Bell – 91 critical violations – including dirty food preparation counters and rodent droppings.

    9. McDonald’s – 136 critical violations – including not having a certified food handler on the job as required in many states.

    8. KFC – 157 critical violations – incidents include salmonella poisoning, according to the health department report at one location.

    7. Subway – 160 critical violations – including a recurring problem with improper food holding temperatures.

    6. Jack in the Box – 164 critical violations – including several complaints of food-borne illness at a Ventura, CA, location.

    5. Dairy Queen – 184 critical violations – including citations for grime, debris and inaccurate thermometer.

    4. Hardees – 206 critical violations – including repeated violations for the presence of insects and rodents.

    3. Wendy’s – 206 critical violations – including food holding temperatures, mice droppings and bare hand-food contact.

    2. Arby’s – 210 critical violations – including improper hand-washing and employees handling ready-to-eat foods with their bare hands.

    1. Burger King – 241 critical violations – including improper hand-washing, uncovered food in the refrigerator, and grime and debris found on the ice chute.

I won't eat at any of those places. It's all preservatives and sugar. Flavored chemicals. I also won't eat at chain restaurants (Applebys,Outback,Olive garden etc.)most of the time, sometimes I'll make exceptions. (gift cards, birthdays etc.)

I like to find the mom and pops and keep the money local. If I'm really hungry I'll stop at a convenience store and grab some fruit.

Lymme truck stop. Tea tastes of washing up liquid and the bacon died of natural causes in old age! Nuff said.

    Just an observation,
How many violations would a health inspector find if he inspected the typical truck cab...?

One of the things the last company I worked for did research on was germs. I could go on and on but one thing to keep in mind about that fruit you bought at the local store.

Unless you boil it for 20 minutes, you cannot be guaranteed it is free of germs.

We need some germs for good health. I saw something on one of the news shows a while back that has a segment on germs. They basically said that we spend so much time trying to kill germs that we aren't building up an immunity to many of them. Out body needs some germs so that we can build up our immune systems to fight them.

Hate to admit it but I'll bet the bottom of my cooler in the truck has more violations than ALL of those listed put together Probably most of us have food stored in our trucks in a way that would be a violation to the health department.

Don't care much for any of those mentioned, like I said, I will sit and be served first.

I know the numbers are small in comparison to the thousands of stores out there, I was only trying to point out why some eat in the truck.

Yes, there are germs all around us....most of us lived in a time before cell phones and computer games so we went outside to play as kids and were in all kinds of dirt and we didnt have directions posted to tell us how to properly wash our hands. Yes, you need germs so your immune system will work properly, I know that.

I know there are truckers out there who will avoid these places and others dont care. I personally would rather cook anyday BUT when I cant then the mom and pop places get my vote. But I do eat at Subway!!

I like some of each. Days when you want a light breakfast, make your own lunch, then stop at a new restaurant for dinner. Or mix up the three. Driving is repetitious enough, and it seems to be healthy for you to get out and talk to strangers, mingle, and let someone else cook the food while you harass the waitress.

Having said that, I dont experiment much with mexican food, or fish in restaurants.

I fail to see the reasoning in Mom and Pop places being more hygenic than chain resturants. I find Mom and Pop places to be just as dirty sometimes. While they offer better service sometimes, some still hire at a minimum wage like the chain resturants, thus having people that can give a rat's behind about sanitation.

I have gone camping for weeks on end, washed my kit with dirt, leaves, ect., I have never gotten sick once.
I eat at Subway and get to have liquid poo  within 2 hrs of the meal,...I know we need to have exposure to germs,...but when the pattern is better than 50/50 that I'll end up ill,....I'm eating in the truck. I'll bet my hot water is hotter than the water they use to clean their dishes at some of these places.
Not to mention that I have worked at restaurants before,...and I always seem to forget how filthy they were,...till I'm on the pot.
Oh,....my water is boiling,..pasta for dinner tonignt with a nice side salad, and a cold glass of soymilk.

If I remember correctly, the number on the sticker denotes the year in which the inspection was done. They also cut a corner to show which quarter the inspection was done. That way, the DOT people can tell which quarter and year your inspection was done and when they need to reinspect your truck by checking your sticker as you pass through the scale. I don't recall which corner is for which quarter.
