Thread: Brings back memories

    Default Brings back memories

Not sure where to put this but man, did it bring back memories and how true it all is.

    Those Born 1930-1979...

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930s, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants &children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,
    WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer! s, no Internet or chat rooms........
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS!

    Amen on that one.

Born in 1975 and did everyone of those things listed but the broken bones forst one of those was 2004.

Best thing was the fireworks my dad would sneak into the state since IL would not allow anything that went BOOM. Ever seen a bullfrog with an M-80 in its mouth they make a pretty but gruesome sight or the best was shooting them with BB guns at Grandma's.

    We never blew up frogs.

We shot them with our .22 rifles, cut off the legs, and fried them up.

Can anyone remember the only thing to watch on TV on a Sunday morning that was even close to entertaining?

I'm sorry Mackman but I think you are generation X or something like that. You will have to delete your posts and not allowed to read any more on this topic.

Maybe I could help you remember your good old days.

Ah yea, I remember it well. Coming home from school on our air conditioned school bus where everyone had a seat. Someone stood up one day and they got expelled because the internet cam on the bus caught them. That was always very exciting.

I would get home and the house would be so quiet because both mom and dad worked. Dad left mom a few years later and we only saw mom for 5 minutes in the morning. It's comforting to know that we were a normal family like everyone else. George's parents have been married for like 15 years. No wonder nobody talks to George, something strange about that family plus his mom doesn't work. Go figure.

I remember it like it was yesterday, me and sis running for our bedrooms after school to power up our PC's in hopes of email. After that we would hang out with our friends until late at night in the chat rooms. It was awesome. I never really met any of my friends but almost did except he said he had to go away for a few years, not sure why.

Sometimes on the weekends mom would cook and that was always an interesting experience. Kraft macaroni and cheese and the microwave were my friend every night for supper. Not sure why mom said she always felt guilty about our eating habits, we never had a problem.

Ah yes, the good old days. They were so easy to remember since we did the same thing every day. I'll always have those memories.

Sorry Mackman. Some of that you may not understand. I grew up riding a bus that had 4 kids sitting in a 2 person seat and the rest all standing in the aisle. The last kid on the bus was wedged up against the door so when it opened he fell out.

My mom didn't work and we had the same thing every week on a particular night. Pork chops on Tuesday, pasta on Wed.....etc.

We always had Sunday dinner and dad took a nap. The whole neighborhood was deserted when Ed Sullivan was on. The Beatles were cool. We all saw it live.

Everyone had at least 2 other moms who took care of us like there own.

Every mother and father in the neighborhood took responsibility for raising everyone's kids.

If we did something wrong and the police caught us, we got a slap in the head from the cop.

Things were much much different back then. If I grew up now I would be just like everyone else. I don't criticize todays generation for what they are doing as I would be right there with them.
