Default What is your Weekly MPG with the APU

I got a call from a buddy who has a pro heat unit, says he got 7.2 MPG last week. I started looking at some of my trucks MPG and got quite upset. Fuel average for this week was $3.15 National. A truck getting 7.2 MPG pays 43.8 cpm for fuel, a truck getting 6.5 MPG (my best) pays 48.5 cpm for fuel, a truck getting 6.0 mpg pays 52.5 cpm for fuel, a truck getting 5.0 mpg pays 63 cpm for fuel, and a truck getting 4.0 mpg (yes he is getting 4.0) pays 78.8 cpm for fuel. I really see the savings with the pro heat unit, are the bigger more expensive APUs getting you better than 7.2? I know some drivers get 7 mpg without APUs. Tell me what you are getting?

What are your idle percentages? If the guy getting 4 mpg is idling 5%, the APU won't do a thing for it. I haven't seen much difference in the different manufacturers as far as their consumption, so they should all have about the same effect.

I can only quote from doing my IFTA but after having the Rigmaster installed my IFTA MPG went up to I think 5.6 instead of 4.5. I know for a fact that I'm using my Rigmaster a ton more than I would normally be idling my truck. It's such a cheap luxury I turn it on when the inside of my truck is 68 so I can bring it up to 72.

I did an experient one weekend last year in the winter and filled my tanks up to the VERY top. It was real cold that weekend and I sat there for 2.5 days. I idled my truck for a total of 24 hours which really sucked cause I was cold a lot. Before I left I filled the tanks and I was buring 1.5 gallons per hour. Because of that my fuel mileage for my 1200 miles was 5.08 instead of 6.0.

That little experiment put me over the edge to wanting an APU.

IFTA numbers are bogus.......I could go on and on about that. Try an experiment from Sunday thru Saturday with zero idling and post your result. I know youre getting better than 5.6 with the rigmaster. Check it out and let inquiring minds know.

What, are you freaking nuts. I'll die from frost bite if the temp falls below 45.

Sorry LOAD IT, all the help you've given me in the past I just can't do it. That's like asking me to give up coffee for just A DAY.

Ask Merrick, I'll bet he could do it......NOT.....He's like me. We are both puss truckers.

Well, i did 7.3 mpg average, for the last month, and 1 week was even 8.1 mpg.
According to this, driver of the truck, is the main reason, in a fuel economy game, idling, is the list...
