I was thinking that exact thing, but I didn't want to say it. Please don't take offense; however I have to agree.

I've been told that many times. I even line up my remotes on the coffee table at home before going to bed.

I'm also glad most people don't know what you just said too!!! HA!

Well, I do but if asked, I will not tell anyone!
    Steve,

Steve..if yer gonna hook up with the Scoe dude, you gotta get him to take you to a Seafood joint out there...plenty of them in the Vancouver/Portland area!!! Salty's, on the Portland side of the Columbia River is great, and not that far from Jubitz TS either. Of course...the restaurant at Jubitz isn't bad...for a truckstop.

I'll be glad to give you directions to Jubitz truck stop in Portland. They specialize in brown, hot and plenty of it.

Actually, Jubitz is usually on the Travel Channels top 10 truck stops in the world show. Nice motel, theater, restaurant, usually enough parking and a truck wash. What more could a guy want?

Ok, thanks Scoe, it looks like Jubitz is only 45 miles away from where I drop off so maybe I'll head there.

I'm way ahead of schedule and had a pretty nice day driving yesterday. This time I filled up in Indiana for less than $2.95 instead of waiting. The microwave and various foods I've stocked up with was a good idea. It's been a long time since I heated up something in a can and they have come a long ways. I grew up on Kraft macaroni and cheese in college that was 4 for a $1.00 and these new microwave Kraft singles meals taste the same to me.

The beef stew is awesome and the chili isn't so bad either. I'm surprised I haven't seen beans and franks in a can???

Today should be another good day, I'm finally ready to hit the long stretch through Iowa and Nebraska and the real open road and high speed cruising. It's real nice hauling a lighter than normal load too. I averaged 6.5 mph when I filled up yesterday but I have a feeling that will go down with the higher speeds. Maybe I'll try and keep it at 65 instead of 75 but I doubt I'll be able to do it.

I watched a flatbed in front of me maybe 1/4 mile and there was cars entering the highway. There was a line of cars on his left side. He put on his directional and started to move and I'm thinking, must be my perception because there isn't any room. Well, off goes one car into the breakdown lane then onto the grass, slides a little, recovers and makes it back on like a race car driver.

I get on the CB and say, nice going flatbed, you just ran someone off the road. He gets pissed and says the person wasn't there and was doing over 100mph. I didn't say anything. There was a whole line of cars next to him all doing about 67.

All in all though, a good day. Made it to Gary Indiana in the wonderful T/A which is another dump. Just when I think I've never been to one of these places I realize I have. One good thing about having a nice clean truck and everything you need is that you can go inside, get something to eat, bring it back to the truck, close the shades and be in a much better world.

Haven't hit any snow yet but I am planning on it. Maybe that's why I pushed it a little and went further than I planned too. It's probably in the back of my head that I'm going to run into something. Sure is nice to hit that little button on the wall in the morning and the heat comes on!!! Not that it's cold this morning but it's raining out, damp and the heat sure feels good.

We just came across WY last week from OR and had the good 'ol winter storm advisory. I think this week the weather's supposed to be decent. Except for maybe the wind :? Last trip west across the northern tier I fought a headwind or crosswind almost the whole way. My worst tank ever...4.5 mpg

Thought I was the only one who has seen that happen. I was on flat ground, foot to the floor, loaded light and losing speed. Looked at the trees on the side of the road and they didn't look like they were moving until I realized all the leaves were cupped over. It was a steady wind when I stopped and got out and must have been 50mph.

Reminded me also as I was standing there I thought I saw something move on the ground but didn't see anything when I looked. I stood there looking down without moving and all of a sudden a head pops up. Ground Hog.

I've always heard military men yell Gary Owen before a charge in a movie or someone just say Gary Owen as a response. Kept forgetting to look it up but it's not a person but a town called Garyowen in Ireland. It's where there most famous marching song originated from.

Mango salsa on dog poop. HEY!!!! I just remembered something. When I was a kid all dog poop was white. What the heck happened?

Not much new happened yesterday other than I was actually able to pass the IOWA80 tuck stop without stopping and spending a small fortune of stuff!!! I made it 600 miles yesterday so I'm way ahead of my own schedule. Lots of cops out pulling people over and most were in unmarked cars.

Some guy going the other way is going mental on the CB trying to tell me to watch out because there's a cop ahead. I didn't respond and he was like urgent that I acknowledge him. He's like, FLATBED....FLATBED...WATCH OUT, THERE'S A COP WAITING FOR YOU!!! Finally I get on and I'm like WTF, I'm not even doing the speed limit, what do you want me to do, pull over and wait till he's gone!!! GEEZUS

I had all the waitresses and some customers over at my table yesterday looking in amazement. I was waiting for my food so I stood the salt shaker on a 45 degree angle. I've been doing this since I was a kid. If you put a grain of salt down and be very careful it wedges itself at a 45. I guess this was the highlight of there day here.

My truck has been posted as available in Portland Oregon for next Wed and my phone has been ringing steadily all day yesterday. The rates are within what I want but I'm trying for more and no luck. I have a feeling that will change once Wed gets closer so we'll see. Most everything is lumber at 48,000 and lots going back to the East Coast. I've been asking for $1.60 for the long runs back East but they won't come up in price and $1.50 seems to be the limit at the moment.

OK guys, lots of freight moving out of the Portland area. Lets see some of you big talkers get me a $2.00 per mile load going back East to Mass, NH, ME or VT and NOT NY!!! My truck will be available on Wed. Tues if push comes to shove. I'm delivering first thing Tuesday morning but felt like taking the rest of the day off. Ya know, it's grueling driving a truck out here in the West!!!

DOT was doing another national enforcement campaign this week. Supposed to be focusing on driver safety for truck and four-wheelers. I had a VA HWP actually pull me over on the side of the road to do a driver inspection. Checked the paperwork and logbook, gave me a fancy little brochure about safe driving and said, "have a nice day."

The people that say they move for a certain amount of money don't claim to be able to get good rates everywhere. Part of being able to get good rates is choosing where you run. I don't know much about open equipment, but from what I've heard the NW is a graveyard. Not much except cheap lumber. Of course if you want to stay in the area and just run between OR, WA, ID it might be a different story, but the folks I know don't go to the NW very often with flats. So, the fact that someone can't find you a $2.00/mile load back to the NE doesn't mean much if it's somewhere they wouldn't have gone to in the first place due to low rates. I run for a minimum rate but I don't claim to be able to get that rate out of FL or the NE for most of the year. However, knowing that I don't go into those areas to start with unless the rate is simply too good to pass up, which means it's enough to DH to a decent area.

I agree with you 100% Worried. My point is that I'm led to believe that they can get the rates and it's just me. I know the drawbacks of going to bad freight areas and I'm not complaining. I'm complaining the fact that a lot of people say they can get the rates and I'd like to see this in action.

LOL, I see the same thing sometimes. That $2.00+ from MA to CA has, for the most part, eluded me. I don't doubt there's some out there, but I rarely come across it. Those guys that are hauling it should be driving their new Benz's to the country club because if I could get those rates on that lane I'd be grossing $600,000 a year

Son of a B&$*$*. It's only 2:30 here in Rawlins Wyoming and I just turned on my APU for some heat. I just went through snow, fog and icy roads today. Not bad though but I was the slowest person on the road for a while. The visibility was only about 30 feet and I swear some truckers were passing me at 70. There is NO WAY they could stop to avoid a problem. I was doing 30 and had a good line of trucks behind me.

Some guy was talking non stop about his truck until we all told him to shut the F up so we could hear the dreaded words "BRAKE CHECK".

So, Tootie....Lets see. I think I may have put 2 and 2 together. Your heading to Oregon also. I wonder who else on this board lives in Oregon who may have a truck that your driving for?????

I think tonight when I go to bed I'll put my APU into automatic mode to come on when the temp gets down to 50 and see how it works. Rigmaster has a mode where you can put it into either heat, cool or auto mode and when the temp gets 5 degrees below the setting it comes on until it's 5 degrees above the setting then shuts down. Same thing when in cool mode only the opposite direction or you can put it in auto mode and it will either cool or heat if your leaving a pet in your truck.

I'm at the T/A in Rawlins WY and this place is filling up fast. I guess everyone else is on East Coast time like myself. I have 2 long trucks on either side of me and I'm like tucked behind them. I hate it when I'm sticking out of a busy place.
