Default Passports needed as of today

Just a reminder to everyone. Passports are required as of today to travel to and from Canada and out of the U.S. including the islands and cruises.

I know. I heard Rank worked for a company and was caught fooling around with the bosses wife so they sent him to Canada.

Pavement? Right, and we all live in igloos.
Actually, I refused to get my passport so I'm no longer going to "THE LAND OF THE FREE".
Free as long as you have your passport, fast card, twic card, etc. You'd think drivers were all working for the NSA or CIA. Next they'll want DNA samples.
This is getting worse than Communist Russia was.

Air only, not land or sea.

    # JANUARY 31, 2008
U.S. and Canadian citizens will need to present either a WHTI-compliant document, or a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, plus proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. DHS also proposes to begin alternative procedures for U.S. and Canadian children at that time.
    # SUMMER 2008
At a later date to be determined, the departments will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI. The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have either a U.S. passport; a U.S. passport card; a trusted traveler card such as NEXUS, FAST, or SENTRI; a valid Merchant Mariner Document (MMD) when traveling in conjunction with official maritime business; or a valid U.S. Military identification card when traveling on official orders.

What's funny is that the FAST card is WHTI compliant, yet not "recognized" and my company wants me to get a passport, yet they wont pay for it.

    I wont be getting one.

    GFY.

FWIW, after the 2008 requirement, American citizens cannot be denied entry back into the US if they don't have a passport as long as they have some sort of valid US ID (drivers license, birth certificate, etc.). This comes from my ex-FIL, who is with the Department of Homeland Security (immigration division).
You can take the driver out of the truck but you cant take the truck out of the driver.

but how do they prove they are a citizen? ID is just ID, it's not proof of citizenship.

Usually you need government issued photo ID *AND* a birth certificate.

OK! Let me get it straight! So, everyone wants borders secure, but obtaining a simple piece of paper, seems to be too much?

I got my renewed passport in less than 4 weeks. I don't know what the big deal is. $12 for passport photos, $67 for the passport renewal fee, the cost of certified mail/return reciept and the few sheets of paper and ink used to print the downloadable paperwork. It took me longer to get my health insurance cards changed than it than it took to get my passport.
You can take the driver out of the truck but you cant take the truck out of the driver.
