Things that go on your fifth wheel to replace grease

I'm wondering if anybody knows the down side to using these. I would like info so I can decide to get one or not.

The teflon pad has been around awhile. I have used them in the past and I liked them. Doesn't completely eliminate grease, as you still need to keep the King pin lubed. They work well with limited trailer swapping. You have to be careful when you hook your wagon after the pad is a few weeks old. They tend to droop and if you are not careful you will rip the pad of the trailer. Also keep an one on the retainer ring. Unless they have changed them, they are seem to be cheap and do not last very long

I use one on my fifth wheel camper and it works like a champ in that enviroment.

Of course I had to vote for myself ya know!

Ummm yeah havent seen one before now, but just at first glance, that was my concern was, 'ripping.'

I don't use one because I unhook every day. I think I would try one if I stayed hooked up more.

When I was checking on them I was told that you have to make sure the the 1/4" thickness of the teflon plate does not bring the large ring on the king pin up to high not allowing the fifth wheel lock to lock around the small dia of the king pin.

I used one on a tractor with a dedicated trailer for over 120k miles and never had a bit of trouble. Sure helped clean up the grease.

Like grey beard said, gotta keep the kingpin greased up but no more big sloppy 5th wheel grease stains all over the place.

For 25.00, I'd be interested in trying this. I'd like some other input from others using this, and how they like it or dis-like it. What are the pros and the cons? My fifth-wheel is one of the most important parts on my truck and I take extreme care and caution with mine!

I don't drop and hook and always pull the same trailer. It's a real heavy duty washer and not something that's going to rip. I don't see how it could anyways since it's used like a piece of bologna on a sandwich.

It will take you some time to remove all the grease from your trailer, 5th wheel and frame. I was lucky to find someone who was willing to steam clean my truck for $80. The trailer I had to do myself and that took 1/2 a day with scraping globs of grease off and many cans of Gunk.

ive been buying these at truckpro for years. they are great. no grease. what's great is they will last unless you drop a lot. i rarely unhook. never again have to unhook just to grease.

All,

One more thing about the 5th wheel teflon pad. When I was using the pad, I always ran a ground strap from the trailer to the truck frame or 5th wheel to make sure I didnt' loose ground. Could keep you from chasing perceived intermitent light problems.
