Default JULY 30TH IS TOMORROW! SHUTDOWN OR NOT

Now is the time to make your decision - shutdown or not. Whatever you decide, remember it will have an impact on your future. Thank you all for listening to my comments. We will make one last post when we see the direction things take in the next few days. Good luck and stay safe.

I'll choose not. I'm on a 3000 mile trip that is going to pay me over $15,000 (my cut, not gross). Shutting down would be pointless and foolish.

I wanted to one-up Mr Eddie so badly that I left my trailer at my agent and bob-tailed home, never to pull it again...take that chief!

    I can't resist.

You know, this shutdown will do absolutely nothing. The companies will say BFD and life will continue on as always. You can protest your brains out and nobody will give a crap. History has shown that massive demonstrations have done nothing to change anything. Vietnam or the Iraq war demonstrations dwarf this shutdown and they both did nothing.

I wouldn't dream of joining a union but that is the only way to effect change by mobilizing the group as a whole and shutting down until a resolution can be agreed on.

    Teacher strike....BANG....one week resolution

    Pilot strike...BANG....one week resolution

A general trucker strike would last about 2 days

Thank you Steve...same thing myself and Bandit have been saying since the whole "shutdown" was brought up. They will find a way to get all the tonnage moved, and life will go on. If you're un-happy, find something else to do...I did.

I'm doing my part by not driving today.

    I didn't say I wasn't working, but I'm not driving.

These are the responses I expected, so I'm not disappointed. One of these days someone with a different approach or plan will come along and get this to work, but I can see that ours didn't work. The ones that did shutdown will get only the satisfaction of knowing they tried to make things better by doing SOMETHING, instead of just taking it in the pocketbook again.
We will never really know how many did park at least a few days, but I would hope there are more than just a few who care enough to try to do something. When the new tariffs come out next January, it will be interesting to see how many drivers will haul for the new rates and how many will be looking for new companies.
As I promised, you won't have to listen to me preach any more. Obviously, my message wasn't either heard or understood and I can live with that.
Good luck with whatever road you take.

I thought the idea of shutting down was to do NOTHING, thereby taking it in the pocketbook.

Hey Meddie I don't know anything about this protest and I don't know anything about your part of the industry or the tarrifs but these types of things don't work. There is one line of the Declaration of Independence that always stuck in my head and you would be wise to learn it"

All experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

That's how I remember it it might be off a bit. Good luck to you anyway.

Are you SURE the anti Viet Nam war protests didn't contribute to any action of quitting that war?
