Default What are you putting on the side of your truck?

    Hey guys,
I'm having the 30"by 50" signs made up for my truck, and was wondering what you put on your signs and what not.
    1.MC OK
    2.DOT OK
3.VIN how many ## (I noticed the old signs on my truck only used the last 7 digits)
    4.Company name OK
5.phone number, my girl says yes, I say no because it leads to people crank calling you, or lizards soliciting services.
6.Web address (doghouseexpress.com company info, and driver bio's, my girl is a real computer geek, so I'm getting a website like it or not,.......not)

    Minimum requirements are:

    Company Name
    DOT#

If you don't want to go into the scalehouse everytime in CO you will need the last, I think it's 8, digits of the VIN.

That's all I put on mine. I'm not worried about losing the business I might get from somebody seeing me on the road and calling. Personally, I think the less info available to the public the better...but that's just me.

I think he took this pic after he had it worked over at the border when he was in Mexico. Or was that just the interior?

I can't tell if the truck was repainted or not. There's no over spray any place. Every time I get it washed it looks like brand new again.

I didn't put my NM, OR, KY or NY numbers on. If you have a prepass, that info is transmitted to the weigh stations so they have it and you never have to go inside to give that information.

All you need nowadays is your US DOT number.
Some states request you to put the last 8 numbers of your vin tho.

Until a few years ago, you were required to put your MC# or ICC # on the side of the truck. Now, all you need is the name of your company, DOT number, city and state of home base, last 8 of the Vin number (if you run Colorado. If you don't have it on the side of your truck, you will need to stop and go in at each port of entry in Colorado.) Colorado is the only state that requires you to post the Vin on the truck. Unless you lease to a carrier you no longer need to put your KYU number on the truck. You will also need to have a truck number on the truck. Most put the number on the side of the hood or bumper. It should be easily visible to the scale master when you go through. You will also need to assign a truck number when you apply for your base plate, etc., It should match the number on the side of the truck. Signage doesn't need to be all that large. 50" wide is a large sign. All you need do is have letters about 3-4" tall so that they are easily visible. Most sign companies can make them the proper size. The font has as much to do with making it easily visible than the size.

Not any more. They did away with the city and state requirement. Company name and DOT# is all you need now. And the VIN, as stated for CO.

    §390.21 Marking of CMVs

    (b) Nature of marking. The marking must display the following information:

(b)(1) The legal name or a single trade name of the motor carrier operating the self-propelled CMV, as listed on the motor carrier identification report (Form MCS–150) and submitted in accordance with §390.19.

(b)(2) The motor carrier identification number issued by the FMCSA, preceded by the letters "USDOT".

(b)(3) If the name of any person other than the operating carrier appears on the CMV, the name of the operating carrier must be followed by the information required by paragraphs (b)(1), and (2) of this section, and be preceded by the words "operated by."

(b)(4) Other identifying information may be displayed on the vehicle if it is not inconsistent with the information required by this paragraph.

The city and state markings must be new. I think most of us will continue to leave our city and state on the side of the truck. It makes it easier for potential customers to reach us.
