I jumped right in last year in November and have been running off the load boards exclusively and doing just fine. I'm averaging over $1.60 per mile and no problems getting paid. The load boards I subscribe to have a credit check option which I bought and tells me there days to pay.

ive noticed in (ny,nj) just running between the two states, most runs were 100-250 miles, but on average all these little runs paid $450-$750, all of the 75-125 mile runs paid over $450. just wondering if it would be smart for someone to try to get 2 loads a day, that would average about a $1,000 a day gross or $30,000 a month if you busted ass. so can 2 of these runs a day be possible?

or just pick one run from the many available at around$500 and only do one small trip a day, that would gross $3,500 a week and use up very little fuel?

you have to factor loading and unloading time, and the wait time just to get into position to load and unload, I wouldn`t count on two loads per day.

You might be able to get 7 a week but I would not count on 2 a day every day.

Ya, I agree with this. It's tough and way too stressfull to try for 2 loads.

your friend can do it but is there room for you?

I run between Boston and Harrisbug and I do 4 loads a week
    somewhere in between those areas
    with weekends off
You will pull your hair out juggling daily loads
    If one load screws up
(we didn't order that, we close at 2 on Fri,you are 6th in line...)
You could lose a couple of days work
There is nothing quick unless you find some sweet deal
By and large your blood pressure will go up hoping to unload to pick up the next days work

I am sure there is but its the exception not the rule
Ch Robinsonn may be able to do that or maybe some mega brokers
but you don't want 1 broker to owe you money unless you are 100%comfortable with them
eg you work for 1 broker he pays in 21 days (which means 30 days)
    week 1 you make 3000
week 2 you make another 3000
    week 3 you make a whopping 3700
week 4 you make another 3000
week 5 you get a check for 3000 and someone you don't even know
    owes you 9,700

I've found out the brokers don't have a clue what's really going on at the shipper. You ask the broker things like, what time can I load and they always tell you 7am. You get there and the load won't be ready until 1pm.

The brokers will tell you ANYTHING to get you there. I've found that you need to call the shipper and ask lots of questions.

I asked one broker what day I had to deliver on. It was Friday and they said Saturday. While they were loading I got the shipping papers and they said to deliver on Wed. It was a holiday weekend and they were closed Monday and Tuesday and don't work on the weekends. Everyone was absolutely BS when I told them to take the load off. The shipper was a woman and so was the broker. I told the shipper that the broker told me to deliver the next day. I told her I wanted $500 a day to sit for 3 days extra. I'm sure those 2 had a great phone conversation.

Having my own authority and the ability to say, take it off, felt great.

way to go steve... i dont have my own authority, but i have & wont hesitate to tell a loader to take something off my trailer in a case like that. i sat one time in mobile al. on the receiving end, the unloader counted the load of brick & msc items 5 times & kept saying i got more than what was on his list. i told him there is only one stop & your it. after an hour, i told him.. i dont care if you only take off what is in your list or the whole damn thing.. whatever you leave on my trailer is going home with me, cause thats where i'm going. he finally after going thru load 1 more time addmitted he was miscounting & load was all there no extra..

if i'm tired, hungry, & out of time.. look out. my patience is not far behind.
