List of Brokers to Avoid

I would like to start a topic on brokers to watch out for. I had one call me. They wanted me to fax over my info, I told them to send me over broker carrier agreement and all their info first. Well they sent it over, did not look right so I checked them out on FMCSA, a bunch of revocations. I called back about how they pay, 25-30 days. I asked about quick pay, $25 for a $300 load could get 40 percent up front but there is a charge for that also, would not tell me what that is. If you know of any brokers that should be avoided post it here. If you know of any good ones also list them. Lets help each other make some money and avoid bad brokers. I know some brokers have messed up one time and need a second chance. When you call and they can't give you direct answers run fast. I'll start with the broker who just called me.

I'd say I've had pretty good luck. Not much to complain about really. These are the ones that stick out. I won't give the names of the good ones. Sorry.

Kenneth Clark wanted to dispatch my truck...wouldn't give me any info on the load. Said they would only talk to the driver. Refused to agree to detention so I didnt take the load.

Woodcock Bros (Canadian) agreed to my detention terms but only paid $275 instead of $350 owed.

Custom Direct agred to $150 + $250 OD permits for TNU, but only paid permits.

Americonnect pays in 45 days.

Maltais Transport pays in 45 days. (Canadian)

REO Distribution called me every 2 hours while we were under their stupid little $700 10' LTL shipment.

Just run their credit, have access to transcredit, experian, and duns and bradstreet. We can also see a list of outstanding claims agaianst their bonds and aging collections with the company contacts. It cost our company extra but it's well worth it in the end. Collards without the extra services we would of known nothing about anything, getloaded and other load boards only gives you a little peek but you get a bigger picture when you pay. It is pricey for these services but we provide it for our small carriers so it works out to everyone's advantage. There are many more brokers to avoid, too many to name though.

I agree to that, if you let them. I haul for them occaisonally, because of their quickpay. They have so many guys that will haul "cheap", they can afford to quote you "CHEAP RATES". Generally, the rates they quote you are 40% less than the actual amount they are getting for the load.

You are right icedad but you have to stick to your price and make them pay. I usually go two hundred more than I want and make them meet me sometimes they give me what I want. But there are times when negotiating is not worth it if the price is too low. Lets work these brokers and make money.
