    Thanks Rev,
She was real sad when she bought me an XM ready radio, and then had to pay to use it.

The problem with garmin or any other small navigation unit is that when you need to go around a city (not directly through one like Indianapolis) is that you can't program in detours etc.

I use a computer with a program like Streets and Trips which allows making ajustments to the "shortest distance" and also allows seeing another route when traffic is stopped and you need to detour. I have built a stand into the floor and can zoom into or out of my position to see upcoming curves at night (especially in the mountains)

Although the garmin units are so much better than a road map, you may find yourself frustrated when you can't alter your course.

No matter what, you will find the navigation devices so much better than reading a road map.

LOL I guess! The saving grace there is that satelite radio is worth much more to a trucker than the monthly subscription price.

The only thing you have to pay for is if your GPS unit supports the traffic services and you choose to subscribe to one of them. That is optional and does not affect the function of the basic navigation features of your GPS.

    Nope, your wrong.

The Garmin has a detour button you can hit at any time. You can also program it to avoid traffic and it will route you around the city. You can also take another road at any time if you know a better way and it will recalculate and take you that way. You can also bring up the map on the display and touch the roads you want to take instead of the way it wants you to go. You just need to read the manual. It does much more if you take the time to learn.

Everyone is wrong, you do need a subscription to access the satellites. You need to make a check out to Terry Davis. Once it clears I will turn on the satellite for you. 8)

It actually depends on the model. Some of the oldest ones do not have this feature. Most of the new ones do. So Steve is right. He just isn't allowed to say so. :?

That wasn't me. My cat walked across my keyboard when I was distracted by the updated status of Paris Hilton.

The manual for the Garmin is lacking and you really need to just play with the device and touch different places when in different screens. There is one place you can touch and it will bring up a view of all the satellites it's tracking and your elevation.

That's one thing I miss about getting stoned back in the 70's. I could sit down for hours and hours finding all the stuff the manual doesn't tell you.

Some of my discoveries have been a result of hitting a bump and touching in the wrong place.

    You guys are killin' me!!!
    Thanks for all the responses.
My girl is happy that there won't be a monthly cost. I was actually going to wait on the gps unit, but she bought it as a birthday gift.
I love the XM, I'll probably love the gps as well.
Does the 660 come with Jill??

Yeah, Terry tried to scam all the unhappy GPS users out of their unit's on another thread,.......I'm on to him,.
I know that you at least have to be Chinese to afford a satellite.

You guys are all idiots and I'll be the only one with a working unit. I was sitting at home in my chair with my GPS and it didn't work. I used Paypal and sent money to Terry. I went out to get Chinese food and bingo, my unit was now working. Am I the only one with brains and common sense on here?

Steve,Steve, when will you learn,......you went for Chinese food,...they know where you are and what you're doing. Terry is just a double agent working for the Chinese space program. A percentage of YOUR Chinese food order went to the space program,...Terry sent the message to the Chinese space program that you went for Chinese food, and the Chinese turned on the satellite 8)
Everytime you eat Chinese food a microscopic tracking device goes into your colon, and they know where you are, and what you're doing.
Here's how you get rid of it,.....bend over, take your index finger and thumb,........oh crap there at my front door,...gotta go,.....good luck man.

They have come down in price, I bought mine at $759.00 and that was a pretty good price three months ago. The Garmin Nuvi 680 has just been released. It has a couple of additional features on it.
