DOT weekend

I have heard some rumors about a nationwide DOT crackdown weekend but I can't find any dates or information. Anyone know when it is planned to go down?

I'm not sure why you guys are afraid to drive. I'll be out there and my truck is in order and so will my paperwork. You make it sound like they are going to inspect every truck and driver. That would jam up every single highway in less than 60 seconds.

I have to agree, if your logbook is correct and your truck is safe, you will be fine, so whats the problem? are you running illegal or driving an unsafe truck? in either case, you shouldnt be on the road. last year, I was hauling hazmat and I got inspected 3 times during that week, ( you dont get a sticker during this time. it was just a normal inspection, and I passed fine each time, I just cant see why some of you are so worried about it.

No need to work if all we are going to do that day is get inspected. They can come to the shop all the trucks will be there lined up ready to go. Oh and before I forget. We had 0 truck related violation and 1 driver related violation. (he forgot his health card).

they took about 20 minutes each..it didnt affect my paycheck, 20 minutes doesnt make a big difference in my day. I think a company shutting down during these days would look real suspicious, but thats just my opinion

Well in that case their are a bunch of suspicious companies out there. I aint gonna knock it. I need this week off anyway. I don't know what states you were in during last year. All my inspections took between 28-42 minutes. It greatly effected my paycheck. My reloads and Friday was shot. I want to get home on Friday afternoon not sit 100 miles away from the house because more than one inspection was needed on my truck.

Just simple logic will tell you what's going to happen. At the most there may be 10 inspectors at a station. If they pull everyone in it will take 15 minutes before they have to close the weigh station down or the highway will need to be shutdown due to 500 trucks lining the road. If they pulled everyone over to check there paperwork then the parking spots would be filled in 5 minutes and that would be the end of inspections until a slot freed up in what, 20 to 40 minutes?

I've been through 2 DOT blitzes before. One in Texas and one in Las Vegas on New Years Eve. We all went rolling through and that was it. Some people got pulled in but there trucks looked like they should have been anyways.

The time in Vegas we were all greeted and asked how it was going. They wanted to hear us speak and maybe smell for alcohol.

I got inspected twice last week. First in PA at 830 AM on Memorial Day, then yesterday on Long Island. Seems maybe some states start this earlier than others? PA was inspecting lots of trucks on monday. The cop in NY told me they will soon be able to tap into the ezpass roadside to see if everything matches up.

Talking about log books and inspections let me tell you:
I have an end sump truck so I was mostly working within 100 air-miles therefore no need for a log book. Now I go on longer runs and I have to do it. What a pain!!! But, maybe because I don't no how to cheat....jemm...jmmmmm...do it right (there is no way I can make a living driving only 11 hours a day) any way, I need some tips on how to do it “right” I usually drive around 14 hours a day

For those of you who can't see a 20-50 minute inspection ruining your day, you obviously don't drive day cab in the north east. Reason I say that is that 20-50 minutes could make the differance between you cruising down the highway and sitting in a 2 hour back up due to normal traffic at certain times.

I haul bulk cement out of PA and haul from VA to CT and I always do two loads a day. One load is usually a short run and the other is a long run. Just one 20-50 minute inspection would cause me to totally miss my second load if it was either right before morning rush hour or right before the evening rush hour. And those of you who run I-78 I-287 I-95 I-80 in the PA, NJ, NY, CT area's can attest to.

Unlike the regular spots & weigh stations they will be pulling trucks over at random, anywhere. There will be agents driving along roadways doing these extra checks. They also said if you get a level 1 you will get your free decal.

It's not a matter of having something to hide. Do you really think that I could falsify my logs at Crete? Please! Our safety dept. is the gestapo of log books.

My only point is: the less DOT (and government in general) in my life - the better!
