Default Does an O/O ever team with a trainee?

I'm willing to skip a 50-50 cut in order to get a good six months of quality experience. I've been in the student fish-pool with Werner Enterprises and encountered sharks both male and female.

After a 4-week PTDIA school and a month's driving 48 states, I've still got so much to learn. I want to learn right.

    I'm a woman and a LADY-LADY, with a husband at home I care about. I'm a very young 56 years of age.

Right now, I'm up in Montreal, Canada. I have a FAST EXPRESS CARD for border crossings. I'm a U.S. citizen.

I'm also a Canadian Permanent Resident.

My current CDL is from Missouri.

Will your insurance let you take on a driver like me with little REAL experience?

Are you saying you would work for free? (Which of course wouldn't be free at all to the owner.)

She....umm stick with the big companies for now (yeah I know they suck but its the only offer right now, and if you search around you will see they are desperate for fresh recruits.)

Yeah things went bad at Warner.......but just try again with another....lots out there....n when you talk to the other companies try not to down Warner too much (even tho it will be tempting.)
Yeah some of the big companies allow you to train with an O/0p but personally as an ex-trainer I would stick with a company trainer....cuz the company actually DOES want you to suceed, and they have better contol over their company trainers. (big Co. 0/0p trainer too much chance youd be just another log-book IMO)

You know you are not the only Warner trainee I ever had tell me they had a problem with Warner trainers (sorry Warner drivers just the truth and when I trained with USX I asked around a lot, questioned other company drivers trainers, and compared a lot of notes.).....but just keep that fact to yourself....no one acknowledges it and the companies stick together on drivers trying to dirty them.

Yeah I'd like to take a new driver on as a new 0/Op with new authority, but it would create too many hassles....already everyone is looking at me as a buisness entity  ....and this would just confirm it to them...I have a hard enough time with Ins. for myself and complience.
The thing is though when I think about it it would make sense if I could.
Every new business expands by giving their first new employees a key position....bear with me here.....I mean every 0/0p would like to get his second truck and so on.....but they get screwed by the hired driver not putting in enough effort. My thinking was hire someone new, get them where they could really do the job, then offer them a partnership....not just a job.......what person says stick it to the company, when they ARE the company?

Default Thanks Pepe and GTR Silver

I understand what you're saying. If only we really still had "free enterprise", but everything now is so controlled. "The fix is in," right? Maybe some other O/O's will have some more ideas.

But as to big companies REALLY wanting to help the students, I wonder if they're not just as happy seeing the revolving door revolve. The supply of people trying to get into the business, as other work opportunities dry up, seems limitless. In just the short time I've been able to check things out, I've seen many quality people call it a day -- at USXpress also.

(or maybe it's just not meant for YOU????).....make a move.......get'r done.......no?...........when i tend to make alot of excuses....either i'm nervous.....or my heart is telling me ......hey, it's not right for me............choose.............................. ......... and get out of "limbo"!!!!

Having a consistent address seems pretty basic. I'm covered, thank you.

you want to become a canadian citizen? because if you don`t spend a certain amount of time in canada while your a permanent resident you can`t apply for citizenship, I believe its still 3 years in country over a 5 year time frame.

And why it has to be O/O?
Besides the point, that it's very unrealistic plan, unless it's your close friend or relative.
You seems to be very observant, and that in my book means whiling to learn.
Just use the common sense rule, and that will tell you the difference from how it's done, to how it's suppose to be done.

Nobody ever teach me what to do, and all i know, I've learned just watching what other people do.
Some times i put it on "to do" list, sometimes to "not to do".
    That simple! 8)

Is your husband Canadian by any chance (I'm guessing that's why you're living in Canada)? If so, are you in a position to get dual citizenship? If you can get dual status, you will be in a very good position. You can legally interstate.

I would like to find a driver to cross into the US on Monday, interstate all week in NY, PA, CT and come back to Ontario on weekends. Don't think any of my drivers are up for the team idea though. Sorry.

Also, Markell may insure you for FREE as an occasional driver (depends on where you took your training).

I think some owner operators would be willing to train an inexperienced driver were it not for the insuarance. It is very difficult to find affordable insurance that will cover an inexperienced driver unless you have a lot of trucks.
