Thread: Does Sirius know I drive a truck?

Default Does Sirius know I drive a truck?

I just got Sirius radio for my truck and 90% of the commercials are directed at truck drivers. I'm wondering if these commercials are custom for me and if so, how do they know I drive a truck? I make it a point to never fill out anything about myself when signing up for something. These commercials are all on CNN which I listen to mostly.

Same with XM. I bought a 'Roady II' at a Petro, I just figured between the two they have me singled out for targeted marketing. Does kind of make you want to quit what you are doing and go work for JB Hunt, doesn't it?

Ya know, I just realized something. I bought my Sirius at a truck stop and given that, the unit could select a different set of commercials tailored for truck drivers.

    Edit:

Wait...I think that's what Cam just said

Is that how it knows? I was just thinking the other day "I wonder what a new job would be like?" and all of a sudden Jb Hunt, Crete and Marten commercials came on within 10 minutes. Spooky.
Don't trust anybody. Especially that guy in the mirror.

Fallen and can't get it up? Know what you mean. The adult incontinence commercials are messing with my head.

I was not aware that they had a Black Helicopter channel.

I''ll pick up a receiver; but given that there is talk of a merger/buyout I'm waiting to see if it happens and I get both XM and Sirius for the price of one.

I think there is a tiny camera in the receiver. Solo, you guys that mess with the lizards, do you get a lot of condom ads on your satelite radio?

Yeah, so about Sirius spying on you and targeting you with specific marketing, got a question for Rev Vassago and some of you guys- if you listen to Harrison On The Edge a lot do you start to get a bunch of ads for Bed, Bath and Beyond or a bunch of proctologists or something?

Yeah, Steve, they do have a lot of ads about trucking companies on Sirius. I guess, they figured there are a lot of truckers that use Sirius.

Ok, this is my guess. Since the unit was purchased at a truck stop it stands to reason that a trucker bought it. Satalite transmission is only one way for us in the private sector. The satalite transmits every single signal to our unit but we only tune in to the ones we want to listen to. It would be simple at the factory to program the unit as a truckstop unit and thereby only play trucking commercials. I would put money on this theory.

Or it could be as simple as the majority of satelitte listeners are truck drivers they are the ones being targeted, ever listen to the call in shows?"Hey this is Blah Blah and I'm a truck driver"........who cares we're all truck drivers dummy you're not so special, and no one cares.get to the point.

Sorry just my personal rant there, too much time listening to the Nascar channel....

Some of those crack me up. Especially, the guys who say who they are, and who they drive for on the company commercials. Makes ya wonder if those really are drivers that say how wonderful that company is. :P

We have a skyfi at home that we bought NOT at a truck stop and it has the same commercials. We have a Pioneer XM radio in the truck that we bought at Tweeter and had installed miles and miles from the nearest truck stop. Same commercials.

I'm thinking that truckers dominate the satellite radio market. After all, other folks might pay for the service, but few are behind the wheel listening as much as we are.

It was on CNN this morning that XM was off the air for a few days in most areas. They also mentioned that truck drivers account for over 90% or the sales so that answers my question.

Also, ever notice how all those damn commercials say the phone number anywhere from 3 to 7 times repeating it over and over again? The must think we have no short term memory and have to repeat it multiple times!
