    Default Forward Air Freight Alert

Although FAF advertises itself as a light load, drop and hook company, FAF management is saying they are experiencing such a slowdown in freight that they have to insist that no trailer leaves the terminal unless it has 25,000lbs onboard. (The selling point of FAF had been that their loads were averaging 3000lbs. to 18,000lbs due to the bulky nature of air freight loads) Now many loads sit for one or two days at the terminal waiting for the right mixture to yield the required 25,000lb load, whereas in the past, the customer came first and the loads were sent out to the customer regardless of the weight.

Solo drivers are left with a dog fight over the crumbs after the teams and dedicated leave with their lighter loads which are not held to the same standard that the solo drivers are held to (25,000lbs.)

Solo drivers are left with sitting at terminals for 2 or more days and then getting loads that are often only 300-400 miles. At week's end the O/O finds himself with a 1000 mile week (needless to say, this thins a herd in a hurry).

Sadly it looks like the company hired too many solo drivers in 2006 and has found a new way to get rid of them.

Unfortunately it appears many solo drivers will be leaving the FAF soon, because of lack of miles. So beware.....FAF will be on a hiring binge again and new drivers will be put in the same spot as current drivers.

Wow, a truely sad state of things. Why can't they take care of their drivers and maybe branch out into other services that are more steady? There's a ton of things that this business could do, but aren't.

I was with Forward Air as a solo driver from August 2006 to January 2007 and they treated me preatty well. I'm sorry to hear things have gone down hill for them. Hopefully this is only a temporary problem.

But more and more I am glad I switched to pulling chemical tank wagon.

So how do you like pulling a chemical tanker, Paul? Are you getting home often? I take it the money is pretty good.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, I was out on the road.

It is going good so far. I made more money in April than I have ever made before in a month, including when I had my own authority.
