This is all nothing compared to what my buddy went through in Vietnam. I can't even begin to describe the terrible events he endured.

bird flu is not a concern right now, it has to mutate to be able to become highly contagious. It is not right now.

Children can get it because their lungs are different, the flu can infect it easier.

Also, if you breath infected air heavily for long periods of time there is a chance you can get it.

But it has to mutate before it can be a real threat.

many people of all times in the Military no matter which Branch has to endure sucky places, learn to survive in the worst of times.

Imagine living out in the Jungles from WWII till 2003 living off the land. stealing food? In 2003 and 2004 2 WWII Japanese Soldiers were found and returned to Japan here in the Philippines.

From what I've read.... the flu virus mutates on a regular basis and that is what accounts for the yearly changes in the flu that hit us each year. But these are all small variations off of a LARGE mutation that occured in 1918. Luckily for us it is only rarely that a large mutation like that occurs. So, you're right.... it is not a question of IF but WHEN will another large mutation occur? Hopefully not in my lifetime!!

You know I always wondered about those bug zappers that "attract" bugs first before electrocuting them. Why draw bugs from your neighbors' yards to yours???

I turned a small problem with meal moths into a large one....I kept finding them flying around my house so I bought a bunch of those pheromone traps from Lowes. They are sticky traps that release a chemical that screams out SEX PARTY HERE to meal moths. Well within a month they were freakin all over my house. I was finding 20+ every day in each of 10 traps. Finally I called Orkin....the guy tells me that the chemicals were like a beacon to them from all over the neighborhood...they were probably flying down my chimney lookin for love. One bug bomb and tossing all those traps and my problems were over. Lesson learned....

It can work, for awhile. Back in the '80s when those Bag-a-Bug Japanese beetle traps first came out, we hung them everywhere. We lost all our everythings that year, and attracted every beetle for three square miles, but it was worth it in the long run, sort of. We got so many of those bastards that we used to hang 30 gallon bags under the traps. I remember changing those bags every couple of days. We must have sent several million beetles to the landfill that year.

Japanese beetles were no problem at all for about another 15 years, because we nuked so many of them in the '80s.

Unfortunately, now they're back, and they just don't respond to the traps like they used to.

Um. What did this have to do with trucking again?

You can thank all of thoses (some of you included) that lick their fingers clean and then go back up to the buffet.

Why do people look at me funny when i pick my nose at the buffet, then handle the tongs? But they can stick their fingers in their mouth and spread whatever cold/flu/disease they have?

BTW- I don't lick my fingers or pick my nose at a buffet. i also wash my hands before and after, as well as when I go to the bathroom
