I'm considering working for an over the road company that doesn't have a terminal nearby. I live in Florida but their terminal is in Arkansas. They told me I'd have to park my vehicle at my house, but I'm not sure I have enough room on my driveway to do so. What are some good locations to park your trucks at? I considered asking the Walmart near my house, their supercentre has a lot of spare parking spots on the far side of the lot, but I don't know if they'd want an 18 wheeler taking up 15 spots, regardless if they're needed or not.

Also, I heard some counties in FL are banning commercial vehicles parking on people's property. (how rediculous is that?). If it's my own yard, I should be able to park whatever the hell I want on it. Does anyone know where I can find out if my county has banned the parking of commercial vehicles on residential property? I don't know if it's illegal here or not yet, but I'd like to find out.

Just about every town has an ordinance against parking a commercial vehicle on your property. Most will not enforce the issue until someone complains, then your gone.

Who would want a garbage truck parked next door. I know your not driving one but it falls under the same category.

You may check to see whether there is a truck stop near you. That would be the easiest place to park. There are also some places who may allow you to park for a fee. Check around for vacant lots. I would always check with the owner before parking. If you do find a place, you may want to tape a note on the window with your telephone number in case they need to contact you.

Storage units? Arn't they those small garage type things, hardly wide enough to fit a geo metro inside of? And they have parking spaces, big enough for a car right? Not big enough for a semi

What I do is park at a RV storage lot usually runs about 60 a month.

Ran a search for "RV storage lot" and couldn't find anything, at least not in my area.... How long can you park your truck at a truck stop for? And do they charge anything? I have one 30 miles from my house, in tampa FL... there's one near the I-4 and I-75 interchange

I would ask the truckstop for permission, many will let you, especially on weekends. Offer to buy some fuel from them in exchange, eat at the restaurant a few times, get to know them a little, they will be more likely to say yes.

You say it was "3 times a day", was it really that much of a disturbance that you felt compelled to narc on him?

I use to park at a fuet stop which had room with no problems.and if I had a load I did park at another trucking companies yard, but I did know the owners also. and of coursed asked permission to. It was a funny sight though, a An Orange Peterbult with a reefer parked amoung all white KW and Flatbeds. I did get a little bit of teasing from their shop personal. Like they wanted to go and go in through the floor and take couple of cases of the Beer I had onboard it. Since the unit was running, they knew they would been cold already...

Courtesy is a 2 way Street.

I was going to pass on that comment, but I have to agree with you. Where was the Dump Bucket Courtesy? Obvesouly the Dump bucket was not just going home, but passing through. Out of a trucker's route SHort cut. Look as he did get his Justise. Steve did the right thing. The Trucker's Image has taken a toll, and Steve was doing was an improvement on that.

Back home and what I seen in other post many truckers would come into town with their Jake brakes blaring. If they were coming off a mountain one thing, but just coming to a redlight on a level ground is something different. And we wonder why the Use of the Jake Braeak is being outlawed all over the place, even some areas where you do need them.

Courtesy is a 2 way Street. Respect others, and they will respect you.

There was much more to this guy. The street was not big enough for a truck and car to pass. He drove on everyones lawn. The peoples lawns at either end of the street were big huge ruts from his trailer. He also had a 4 car garage built on his lot and when we all complained they came and shut it down. He was running a commercial truck repair and welding shop. His building permit was for a 4 car personal garage.

Well, one thing led to another and he started trying to intimidate people. He drove up on about 6 feet of my front lawn and the neighbor across the street in retaliation. Not sure the course of events but he was arrested multiple times. I think he thought he was one of the Sopranos or something.

Professional courtesy you say. Where was his, he had none at all. Destroyed property and had no regard for the people on the street. His house was sold months later.

If you had stated these facts earlier, it would have been obvious that the guy was out of line and needed to be shut down.

In instances where someone is simply parking a truck at their home however and not causing a major problem, I still stand by my belief that they should be left alone.

Ya, no problem. This was only just a few of the things. He started inviting people over on motorcycles and one they figured was doing over 90 mph on a 20mph street with kids. 70 year old Mr. Harding across the street from me took him out with a rake as he went by a second time. He went into another persons driveway with his supercharged car like the one in American Graffiti and power braked and melted the tar. The registry of motor vehicles was then called. His car was impounded and deemed way over the allowed horsepower. His license was suspended, a lawn service was hired to fix all the damage at his expense and a restraining order issued that he was not to be within 100 feet of anyone on our street. He was like a big huge hairy gorilla and was still living back in his high school days where nobody would screw with him and if they did he would use violence.

I have a Harley Davidson and when I was working a regular job I would leave the house at 4:45am. I would push my bike out the driveway then coast down the street before starting it.

That's why you hire illegals to mow the lawn. This way the hairy gorilla attacks them, not you. lol. Then it becomes an international incident and you get your 15 minutes on TV. lol
