is there a pete 389 ? i only heard od 359-379- & 387 man i must be getting old..![]()
The 389 replaced the 379 recently as with the T-660 replacing the T-600
I have not driven either, but I did get an up close look at the 389 this last week at the Pete dealer in St. Louis,I must say the pictures I have seen so far don't do it justice. The truck had a square bumper and stainless visor and looked very close to the 379,the only thing I didn't like was the headlights and they might grow on me or I would just replace them like evryone does anyhow.
I didn't get to get inside but I was pretty impressed looking at it from the outside,I think that it will become the new staple of O/O's.

Yeah I remember driving by one and I thought it looked kind of funny. I'm pretty sure the hoods are a bit bigger too, especially the grill.
I wonder if everything else is pretty much the same?
The hoods themselves are longer than the previous model. The grille I don't believe to be bigger I think it's the grille shell is thinnner, making the opening look larger.
Not too fond of the changes Peterbilt has made...the hideous exhaust, and the sootbox location etc. for their new trucks. Seems the W-900L is going to be the staple for the trucks...it's maintaining all the classic truck looks, even with all the new emissions standards.
The exhaust probably has something to do with the new emissions, what have they done anyways?
lots of bad things which result in poor performance and mileage which resulted in declined orders which results in a couple of my buddies being laid off at the renton WA paccar plant.
Like I said that picture looks nothing like the truck I saw in person,I own a 379 and I as much as anyone was mad when they announced that they were discontinuing the 379,but like I said it is much better in person.Give it 6 months and let the aftermarket come out with a few goodies and it will be all good.Originally Posted by Jackrabbit379

Those headlights make it look happy.
I'm sure guys will take em off and retrofit other headlights anyways.
Yeah, I've never seen one yet. I would like to, but I'm sure, after some time, there will be lots of them out there.
Here's a 389 from MATS
Doesn't look bad...the lower part of the exhaust still looks like shat.
I've always liked the Pete 379 even though I'm a confirmed Kenworth man. The more I look at the Pete 379 the more I like 'em and the new 389s do look a little happier. Order me one with a 550 HP Cat and a 13 speed, 3.37 rears with a 70" sleeper on 24.5 rubber and I'll be happy!

I dont care what truck its is, its not worth no 140,000$ when for 110,000 i could have bought in Freightliner Classic or Century class Owner Operator package with FET, Detroit 515 with all the goodies and could run it up to a million miles before overhaul. I understand the long hood/classic type of need in drivers but whats too much is just too much.
I saw a 389 where I unloaded yesterday. I had hoped to be able to talk to the driver, but he was gone before I got unloaded and back to where he was unloading. The headlights are the single thing which I first noticed. I would expect to see some resistance from hard core 379 owners, but time will tell.

That's what I think too.
