    Default Tough week....

Been a tough week in the trucking business.

First, we've pulled 4 loads of steel from PA to ON in the last 2 weeks. Was going pretty good and the shipper told the driver "there's loads every day until June". So somebody got brave and sent the truck out Sunday on a headhaul gambling that we'd get the steel as a backhaul. Monday morning I call the broker....NO LOADS.

So now I'm scrambling. I manage to find a reload paying $2.85/mile. It was loading 25 miles from where the headhaul delivered and delivering 50 miles from home (whoo hoo pulled a rabbit out of a hat or so I thought). Then I get the confirmation. "WE DO NOT PAY DETENTION". Also, there is no address for P/U & Del. The driver must call broker in the AM and the broker will dispatch my truck. Same thing on delivery. I mentioned how it was my truck and I will do the dispatching thank you and I never sign a confirmation until I speak to shipper and consignee. Guess what? The "shipper" canceled the load yeah right.

Then I call another broker about some regular shipments he has.....can't get me a load appointment.

Called about 15 other loads and all were paying under $2/mile. Some closer to $1.30.

So that truck came home empty. 475 miles. First time we've had to do that in a month or two. At least the other truck is under a good load.
