Total newbe question here for U bedbuggers, but can't you guys with your own trucks check the non moving company load boards and find something to put in your truck going the direction you need to go? But with the $$ you are talking about for the upcoming loads I would go home too. Bill

I can't speak for Rev's company, but some carriers will allow their owner operators to find something to haul if they don't have anything. The load must be run through the carrier since you must have authority to haul freight. There may also be some problems with the type of authority the carrier has in place. It depends on the carrier. HHG companies operate on a little different set of rules than those who haul general freight. One problem bedbuggers have is their trailers. They may not be able to get to deck height to haul regular freight. Some have a way to raise their trailers to accommodate the dock.

We have the same operating authority as every other freight hauler out there, yoopr. It is regular freight haulers who don't have the EXTRA authority to haul HHG. We haul regular freight from time to time. We call it "special commodities". The issue comes in the fact that our trailers have about 9000 lbs of equipment in them for doing HHG moves. That stuff takes up a lot of space.

In fact, I used to drive for a moving company that did just that - hauled HHG out, and regular freight back. It has nothing to do with authority.

Not to mention our empty weight is, on average, about 10,000 lbs. heavier than an average OTR truck.

I know with the company I pull for, I am contracted to haul EXCLUSIVELY for them.
