Default Best company to lease a truck on with

My father and I are looking for a good company to lease a 2000 Peterbilt on with. He just got a new truck and I am going to drive this one. So, we are up for any ideas on a good company. We are located out of beautiful Tennessee...in the Middle near Crashville...if you know what I mean....

You are up in beautiful Tennessee, (I'd love to be back up there myself!!) so I think that you'd do well to hook up with G-Man; I believe that he is affiliated with LandStar. IMHO, Mr. G-Man is the best informed member on this board; he won't steer you wrong.

I'dunno why I didn't think to mention this last night, but you may have better luck if you post this on the Owner/Operator Forum 8)

That is a very nice thing to say, Useless. I am not exactly affiliated with Landstar, but I do haul loads for them sometimes.

Mikieat, what type of freight do you want to pull? Do you have your own trailer or will you need the carrier to furnish it? I would find a percentage carrier with which to lease. Some I would consider are Landstar, Mercer, CRST Malone and Jones. You will need to be very self motivated to make good money with these carriers, but the opportunities are there.

I appreciate the ideas G-man. We are looking at Clarksville Refrigerated and Fedex Custom Critical right now. We aren't dead set on anything. So, I will definetly take your thoughts into consideration. I like the idea of percentage pay. Considering some of the lousy rates per mile most companies consider as good pay.

Right now, some rates are lower than usual. I expect to see a thinning out of the herd. Those who continue to haul cheap freight will not be able to make it. Things should pick up when spring gets here. Hopefully, some of those who will haul for fuel money will be out of business and there will be a over abundance of freight and under capacity of trucks. Right now, there is an over capacity situation in many areas of the country. When there are more trucks than freight, rates will suffer. If you get with the right carrier, you can still make a decent living, but you may just have to work a little harder until things pick up. I think percentage if the most fair way to work in this business.

GMAN you say pull for percentage. I have always pulled for the big companies at there cpm rate. If I was to take the percentage as an O/O how is it you know what the company is paid for that load so you know you are getting your fair share

If you are on a % based pay, you have the right, to demand to see original rated BOL.
But, it wouldn't hurt, if you get familiar with the regular rates, in the areas you are gonna haul.

Example
Wednesday, after unloading in Cinci. OH, i've call in, and they offered me load, 1st stop Albany, NY second Jersey City, NJ.
When they quoted me the rate on that one, i said you'd better check on it, there got to be some mistake.....!
They did, and there was a "small" mistake, $456...!
