    You can file for the authority with FHWA for about $300, get a process agent for $35 and then look for a surety bond company. You dont always have to put up $10000. The people that want $10000 want to make money off of the interest. You have to shop around just like with insurance. Also when you file, you will get mailings from companies that offer surety bonds. Also, if you broker exempt products like produce, mulch, ag products you dont need the authority, just set up as a loading service. All I ask is that you pay your trucks, we have enough deadbeat brokers ruining peoples lives with only $10000 to secure the freight bills.
