How easy/fast is it to sell your truck?

Lots of questions, I know...

If I wanted to sell a used truck, let's say milage is 100k-300k, where would I do so and, more importantly, how long would it take? I don't mean trade one in, but actually get $$$ for it.

How long it would take depends on what you're asking for the truck. Too high......you'll have to wait for a sucker to come along. To low.....it goes quick but....you're the sucker!

Well, I'm not yet. Just trying to do my homework before I decide how to get back into trucking. I want to buy my own so I can have some flexibility in what loads I take. But I don't want to make trucking a lifetime career. And I don't really relish the idea of being a company driver (again) because I can't stand it when your dispatcher never sympathizes with your needs and sends you everywhere but where you want to be.

If I could buy a truck, drive it (somewhat) when and where I want, then sell it after I was done trucking, that would please me a lot.

Chances are, you're still going to have a dispatcher as an o/o. Being an o/o doesn't mean all the freedom people think.

You don't like the load your dispatcher gives you, so you refuse it. Ya still gotta deal with that guy who gets your freight....see where I'm going with this? YOu could get your own authority, but your commitment level doesn't seem 100% into a career of trucking.

I sold my pete within a few days of putting up for sale, and I constantly have people after both my kw`s now, theres always a ton of stock truck around though so I assume you`d be waiting a while to sell.

It will depend on the brand of truck and what the market is doing. You can always wholesale it to a dealer, as long as it looks good and has been kept up. You can also take it to an auction. From your post, you don't sound very serious about making this step. If you are going to make a good living at this, you need to go where the freight is best.

In 99, i've bought a 99 Volvo610, good specs, the last year with the CAT engine. I've actually bought it to a "friend", who didn't have a credit, and promised to buy it out, in a year or so.
I've put a 6 grand down, and financed the rest. That was in March, he returned truck to me in July, with about 30,000 miles, i was lucky to find someone, to take over payments, in October!
In a mean time, has had one truck running, and 2 truck payments! :sad: :wink:

It can be difficult paying for two trucks when only one is running. I am glad you were able to find someone to take over the payments, Solo. You cannot count on finding a buyer quickly. Occasionally, it may happen, but sometimes it may take a while to sell. In the mean time payments continue. :?
