    Default Lowboy Tractor.

My company currently runs 2 full time lowboy tractors and one part time we are now looking for another full time one but are not sure what get.

The 2 full time ones are a 1997 and a 1999 Peterbilt 379EXHD with 3406E Cats a 475HP and 18spd both tri axels with doubble frames and 18 fronts and 46 rears.

    The part time truck is a 2002 International 9900 with a C15 475HP Cat and a 13spd and is tandem with 12fronts and 46rears.

So what sort of truck should we get.

If the Peterbilts are holding up in your application, buy another one with the same specs. If it aint broke don't fix it.

Well the 1997 has 475,000mi showing and the 1999 has 310,000mi we haven't had any real major problems with them except the 1999 has had quite a few electrical problems.

We are looking at a 2006 KW W900L with a C15 550HP, and a 18spd other wise the same specs as the Petes.

I would get another one of them but with a heaver front in it. Maybe a 550hp if your pulling heavy heavy loads. I worked at a place witht he same truck for a lowboy and it did a damn good job.

Thats what I want to get to but the boss seems to be stuck on Pete's and KW's for lowboys.

Well I don't know if we need the 550HP or not but we do pull alot of loads that weigh 130,000lbs by them selfs.

I don't think it makes any difference which brand of truck you buy as long as it is properly spec'd. Pulling that much weight you want to make sure that you have plenty of power and low gears.
