I have heard many a good thing about Volvo's, However I know many a good thing about KW's. (own 2)

I am not sure how easy it is to find parts/mechanics for the Volvo Motor but the cat can be worked on just about anywhere.

Some one I used to work with got into the dumptruck business and owns one of each and he prefers the volvo.
Don't trust anybody. Especially that guy in the mirror.

See the problem we are running into is the Volvo can haul 22 tons but the KW can only haul 20.5 even though it doesn't seem like the KW would weigh that much more it does, but my boss likes the KW, but from a piratical stand point I believe the Volvo is the better choice on this. Now if Mack would come out with a decent offer he wouldn't hesitate to by one of them and Volvo owns Mack. :?

I vote for KW. dependable and better resale value. Did Volvo get the premature drive tire wear issue resolved? I think I read they did, but not sure...

VED-12's are very reliable engines. In the four years I worked at a Volvo dealer, I never saw one with a catastrophic failure. I've seen most other types of engines come apart. I don't have much experience with Cats, but they seem to be about equal to Volvos.

Most KW's are a huge pain-in-the-ass to work on. I don't have much experience with VHD's, simply because they aren't very common. Volvo makes the best highway trucks, though, so I'm sure VHD's are fine.

I didn't know that a Mack is more expensive than a Volvo. Mack offroad drivetrain is unique to Macks and it seems to be really durable. Mack engines used to suck, but they have recently come out with a "new Mack engine," which is really a Volvo engine. So now it's the best offroad truck with the best engine. He really should spring for a Mack, but if he's too cheap, the Volvo is the second best choice.
    I think the devil drives a T2000.

Yeah the best price we can get out of Mack is $133,500 and that truck we can only get 21 tons on.

Also how much would you say a 1999 Mack Rd690s tri axle with 300HP a 7spd and 300,000mi should be worth on a trade.

Everyone has their favorite truck but what I would suggest is that you look at independent data. Please check out this link (http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/new...asp?ID=2006136). KenWorth was at the top again for over the road tractors and very high on the list for vocational. While Volvo is very popular for over the road tractors they do not seem to have very much market penetration for vocational.

you know you can only go so light on a truck then it turns into a pice of ****. Being really light is not allways a good thing when it comes to dump trucks. Alot of guys around my way are not big fans of volvo for dump trucks. They can barley make a car let alone a truck. just my .02 cents. I used to be a big mack truck guy buts thats only 2002 and older before volvo got there hands on them and did away with one of the best trucks the R model.

Yep the R model was the best unless you were more than 5'5" wich I am then they became short on space.

The Volvo really isn't that light espically since it will stay on the road most of the time so I don't see any problems with it.

Hey, I would take the KW, over the Mack, & Volvo! Does anybody, know
