How often do you get to go home ?

Is there any truck job that you can go home every day ? If yes, are those called short haul / local ?

Yes plenty of trucking jobs that get you home everyday or night. I would consider them Local.

There are also quite a number of "local" jobs that get you home every other night. It depends on just how far the company considers it to be local.

I get home most every night - although right now I'm on a two-week community haz-mat collection tour thingee.

Most of my runs are out and back, 300 mile radius max.

Although I did drive 709 miles yesterday, from McAllen, TX to Houston, drop and swap, and down to Raymondville.
