    Default That %&#@! Simulator!

    Hey Everyone~

I am in CDL school right now and we have a simulator to play with. Working on shifting right now. Now, I have double clutched in the distant past when I drove a bus, so I really expected to do a lot better than I did on that simulator. I know that the sim is way different than the truck, BUT I WOULD HAVE AT LEAST LIKED TO HIT 1 GEAR! :x

So really, how many of you REALLY use the clutch?

Starting and stopping mainly. There are few times to slip the clutch, like you would in a 4 wheeler.

    Amtrak's simulator

    Sorry Amtrak - I just couldn't resist.

Other than from a dead stop, I use it once in a while just to make the slip a little easier.

I also use the clutch if I make an error shifting and need to get it in gear ASAP, much like the post made above.

I love it Lady18! If you only knew me.

Well, I got right back up on that baby today and slid those gears slicker than...well, I made them all. Went back down even...and back up again!

Same thing happend to me at the locomotive simulator...I was tearing trains up all over the countryside until I got the hang of the machine.

Tomorrow, i am going to drive like a real trucker and leave the clutch at home. Hope the instructor doesn't see it.

The sim is a straight 10, but i forget the tranny make. I think it starts with an "E".

Classic...I am not in Omaha. Taking CDL in Cedar City, UT and will go to Denver on 1/19 to start orientation/training.

A friend of mine just went with Werner and he wants me to team with him when I am done. I am basically a loner by nature and not sure the money is worth it. Still trying to figure that one out.

Simulator even has a specific transmission? Must be one helluva simulator!

Well yes it is an Eaton. The sim has the ability to switch makes and models of tractors, engines and transmissions. It's pretty cool.

Also, I took all my tests today at DMV and passed them all! Big load off and thanks to Lady18 for your Hazmat post that included questions and answers to questions that were not covered in class.

Start grinding gears on Monday....working towards that Jan. graduation date. Hopefully I won't starve to death before then.
