Uncurable Jock Itch (grossout warning)

MadaxeMax beat me to it, but I was going to advise a second rinse cycle whenever washing your clothes. Today's detergents are almost ALL "concentrated" and it's easy to use more than you need (or can be rinsed out.)

I've been having a problem with itchy, rashy skin all over recently. I think it could be the soap that the truckstops are providing (in the showers.) But, it could also be my detergent. Some years ago, I started using the cheap store brand from my local food store. Even THAT has changed, I think. Anyway... I no longer need to save THAT much money, and I'm gonna go back to a better quality laundry detergent. Maybe, even back to Arm & Hammer as I believe it is the purest one on the market. And I may do the second rinse cycle, too!

if you want to see if you're allergic to something, take some benedryl. If it goes away even for a couple hours but comes back its allergies. If not, then its not.
If you're worried about it being an STD go to a planned parent hood or other free clinic, they'll check you, but be prepared for a penile swab. (some might call them painful)

Not at all a big guy myself but I'm going thru something very similar to this except it's more my legs around that area in the front than my little buddy. For me, it was heat rash since it first showed up in the summer time about 7 or so years ago. It went away after free-balling for a while and air drying after showers, once fall/winter hit it went away completely...........about 3-4 years ago it came back though. I've tried different creams, baby powder, etc. The baby powder had a small effect on it but the cream did better IMO. It's made by Equate, Antifungal Cream-Clortrimazole Cream USP 1%. As long as I remember to put that on it does a pretty good job of dealing with it.

I'm only about 5' 11" Maybe 175-180 pounds. Is THAT what you meant?

I didn't mention it earlier, cuz I didn't think it applied, but I had something similar to Mr. Ford's condition for a very short while back in 1990 or so. A BIG red rash on the inside of my thighs just below the "joint." Nothing on my "BUDDY." Don't remember what I did or took, but it went away and has never returned.

BTW, Mr. Ford.... Equate doesn't "make" anything. That is the generic name for Walmart products. Who knows who makes it, but it sure ain't Walmart.

I thought I had a yeast infection derived from contact with my woman. SHE thought I'd been fooling around. Neither was true. I've SEEN pictures of a yeast infection and it seems I've had one of THOSE, too. But, not THAT time.

I don't know what caused my rash on my inner thighs. Maybe, too many Cheetos that month. But, it has never returned. My one and only yeast infection was beaten by an antibiotic (I beleive) and has never returned.

The O.P's situation doesn't sound like a bacterial infection. I don't believe antibiotics will help. I'm still leaning towards an allergic reaction to detergent or food.

And, according to Windy.... I have a Doctorate's degree!

As I said, if its hive or an allegeric reaction that can be established by using benadryl. Otherwise the heat rash/chaffing can be part of it. I would say that if its fungal ie jock itch or yeast. He would need a strong anti fungal and they aren't all greated the same. Those foot powers may not work, it could take a strong prescription and eliminating the situation that fungi thrive in, by reducing heat, and moisture.

I'm sure if your showering in a truckstop you don't have this but a heater that blows air will work, or the hand dryer, perhaps.
I would just make sure your junk is nice and dry before putting your panties back on.

(Graphic, lurid content warning) Wow, lots of replies!Thanks! Thanks for the specific suggestions, too. And the humor! I'm just checking in. Been busy driving, etc. Yeah, it might be the detergent, and I think I only have one rinse cycle on my washer. I'll check it out. What I just noticed this morning is that after I take a leak, I need to massage the urethra area to get the last drops out, and to do this I have to push against the scrotum skin. I have my fingers on the outside of my underwear, to keep any carcinogenic compounds from the truck on my underwear instead of on my scrotum, so of course as I am massaging, through the underwear, I am pressing the underwear against my scrotum repeatedly, rubbing all that leftover detergent into the scrotal skin ! And I've noticed that my clothes, especially my cotton t shirts and underpants, reek of detergent for days after I take them out of the drier. I use an extrastrength econo brand.

It's been about 3 weeks since I used up all of the prescription strength Nystatin cream, and the redness and itchiness is actually less than usual . Maybe there is hope.

I don't know if your problem in a fungal infection or not, but I thought I'd describe my self mixed anti-fungal that I've used for 35 years. I got/stole the idea from a product called "Swimear" that was for swimmers ear. A fungus infection of the ear from swimming.

Anyway, the only ingredients of Swimear were rubbing alcohol and boric acid. So I found a 6oz squeeze bottle and bought a 12oz container of boric acid at the drug store. I mix it 6oz of alcohol to the amount of boric acid about the size of a pill of aspirin.

Works great on jock itch, athletes foot, fungal ear infections and things that aren't fungal like cuts and abrasions.

I had this problem and tried everything, then went to a Doctor for something else and asked if there was something he could suggest, He said that the fungus gets in to your underwear and washing does not kill it, so off the recorded he told me to microwave my underwear for a min. after washing them, after 2 years of hell that worked

By the way, that is also an excellent way to kill germs in your scrubbie or sponge that you use to do dishes.

You may also consider using Clorox or another brand of bleach when you wash your underwear.

Just thought I'd add an update on my situation. I still have it. I changed my detergent to another one that my gf I had lying around. The microwave is an interesting idea. I'll try that. So is the bleach idea.
The gf thinks I should buy Ivory Snow detergent.
It only bothers me when I take off my jeans, before getting into bed, at which time the cold air hits it and it starts to itch. I just scratch it greedily for about 30 seconds, and the itch goes away. I'll miss the satisfying scratching if and when I ever cure it !!

I don't think it's a rash at all.. I bet its something more along the lines of Cellulitis.. which needs to have some strong antibiotics to kill.

I had a persistent rash down-yonder and had no insurance and a doc told me to mix a tube of Hydrocortizone cream 1% and a tube of Lotrimin (Clotrimazole cream) together in a small jar and apply it when necessary. It did the trick, instantly takes the fire out of a rash. Both are Over The Counter and can be found in most any grocery store medicine isle.
Downside, it thins the skin making it more prone to tearing (esp. in "sensitive" areas). Use it just for a few days/week.

I had a persistent fungus problem as well. Changing my daily routine with consistent (VERY consistent) anti-fungus cream did the trick. You also have to put it on your feet even if you don't have it down there. You could be constantly transferring it back and forth. And do *NOT* use any sort of moisturizer. That will make a fungus infection many times worse.

Here's what I did:

-Bought a new pair of shoes, and threw out my old ones. I constantly sprayed the new ones with anti-fungal spray
- Wash everything(socks and underwear) twice
- Always put socks on first, and take them off last
- Coming out of the shower dry everything really well, then use a new dry towel to dry your feet and junk (junk first always)
- anti-fungal cream twice a day for a long long time. A solid month at least, and a few weeks after everything is gone.

Are any of your toe nails yellow?

I found until I started changing my routine that the fungus infection didn't get any better with the anti-fungal cream. You really need to hit it at all fronts.

What you said about going to bed rang a bell, and that was the exact same thing with me. Needed a good minute of scratching then I was fine.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I got a yellow toenail on the left big toe about a year or so ago. Around the same time as the scrotum rash, I think. But I think I got the yellow toenail from my GF, who has massive toenail fungus. Don't think I got the scrotum rash from the gf, since she does not have a rash on her cooch. I'm using Vicks vaporub daily on the toenail. It's a pain, takes a lot of time, every day, along with all the other daily time-consuming chores I already have. Still have the toenail fungus and the scrotum thing (whether fungus or just allergy, or something else). I already used a whole tube of prescription Nystatin antifungal cream on the scrotum, and it didn't cure it. My doctor wants me to go on Lamisil for the toenail, but I won't. He won't recommend anything else for it.
