Default Great News (got a new job)

Well today i was looking on craigslist and came across this job listing.
    http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/trp/1691721803.html

I went down to fill an app. out. I thought it was just going to be filling the app out and then someone calling you later.

I had a interview with the owners and they hired me on the spot and i went for a drug test right afterwords. I will be in the operating engineers union local 542. Rate is 23.04/hr with OT after 8. Full benefits that are 100% free. Guarantee 40/hrs a week all year round. No lay-offs.

This is the company's website Experience the Difference: Norris Sales. I will be driving a 379 pete with a landoll trailer. For those of you that dont know what that is heres a pic.
(The one I'm going to be driving is 2 axle not 3 like in the pic)

I will keep you all updated and take pictures. I cant wait to start. Give my 2 weeks 2morrow.

You are absolutely spineless. You should have told them "Thanks, but you can keep this job until you get some QUALITY equipment like a Mack to pull your trailers!"

Or just gladly accepted like I would, or anyone else

    Congrats on the gig!

This is the most money i have ever made in my life. I'm making 18/hr now. I'm getting a 5/hr raise! You don't have a clue on how happy i am. This is the type of life long job i been waiting for. A place i can stay for years and not worry about rainy days off, Lay offs in winter Etc Etc.

They do got 1 Mack CL in the fleet. They got 3 trailers and like 4 or 5 tri axle and tandem straight trucks/rollbacks. The rest are all pete 379 tractors and the straight trucks are 357s.

I also have 2 retirement plans now. I will have a pension with the operating engineers and Norris sales them selfs have a 401k you can enroll in. They match .25 cents on the dollar up to 6% of your pay.

The only thing i forgot to ask was how much the union buy in was and my dues each month. I think the union buy in is about 500 bucks and the dues are in the 50 dollar a month range. I have to call the lady back today after i give my 2 weeks so i will ask her then.

Be extremely careful and dont f*** anything up! If your new employer is anything like a union LTL carrier they will fire you for the slightest accident while you are on probation. They dont want to take any chances of being stuck with a bad driver once he gets in the union. Other than that CONGRATS! You waited along time and I know you fully appreciate your new opportunity! You desrve it bro!

Thanks snowman. I appreciate this opportunity like you wouldn't believe. I just cant get over the fact i got it. I guess them couple years i drove a RGN paid off now.

I just came back form giving my 2 weeks. Bossman/Owner took it really well. I was shocked. He told me i would of been a fool if i didn't take it. He even said he is going to call them for me and give me a letter of recommendation. I kinda felt bad leaving him cuz i been there almost 3years and he did treat me like family. But i know in the long run i will be alot better off with the new job.

When i called norris sales back and talk to the owner. HE said my dues are 2.2% of my gross pay. But he wasnt sure of the buy in.

Congrats on the new job, sounds like a good deal. I had fun when I was hauling construction equipment around and I think you will, too.

Anyway, since I cannot talk to you anymore because you are in the union now, Good luck and I hope you enjoy the work, the eqipment and the people you work with and for.

It's weird hearing about the pension plans and retirement plans and the unions.

I live in Arkansas and there's no union jobs here that I know of. No retirement or pensions either. There are 401-k's though. Weird how a few hundred miles and a different state is so much difference.

I had uncles that had union jobs up in Illinois they are all retired and still getting a check plus S.S. check too.

Good luck hope it all works out for you.

I think union jobs very from area to area alot. I mean the back hills of WV or TN aint going to have union jobs. But i live about 25 miles from philly and there is alot on union jobs around here. The closer you are to a bigger city the better chance for a union job.
