    Default Several Felonies

I am looking to get into the trucking industry and have several felonies, and have been to prison twice. Some weed charges, and some violent stuff. I know, not a rosy picture. I was told truck driving would be a good career I could get into, but I am finding out from posts here and other boards, insurance carriers dont want the liability. Are there any companies that would hire? I was hoping for a short list of companies I could call, rather than calling a 100 companies just to be told no every time.

Any leads on a school that can help in Atlanta?

Yeah I read the posts here and OTR is not glamorous, long hours, no showers, crappy food, never home. Well thats still better than sitting in jail

Although I am sure this guy is a TROLL, I am going to answer.

WHY would any company hire anyone with the record you described when there are so many out of work truck drivers with good records?

IF you are serious, the only companies that might even begin to touch you are small independent companies where an owner/operator is adding a truck or two. No major is going to touch you.

As for whoever told you trucking would be a good career, it once was. The past few years however, it has gotten worse by the day. Trucking companies closing daily, freight is down, pay is down. I strongly suggest you look elsewhere.

Remember, don't blame anyone else for your failures. You made your bed, you did the felonies, you won't be able to get a job.

    Good Luck
REMEMBER, guns don't kill! It's the jealous husband that comes home early!

No I wasn't trolling, it is a legit question.

There is not going to be ANY industry right now that is short of help, except maybe the medical field. But any trade that requires short term or no training is going to be swamped with potential employees. Due to my record, I owned a B2B, and for years, people complained of techs with no overhead cutting price etc.

If you haven't noticed, its not just the trucking industry that has a shortage of jobs

I am not blaming anyone, I made some choices.

    Oh well.

Some carriers will hire those with a felony conviction if it is at least 10 years old. Few will hire anyone with multiple felonies. If this legitimate the I would suggest a couple of things you can do. Go to your local state employment office. Lay out your case and see if they can help match you up with a potential company. The second thing you could do is start making phone calls. There are thousands of carriers of varying sizes across the country. Most of the larger carriers are going to be pretty rigid with their hiring requirements. Most are not doing criminal background checks as a matter of routine so it will be difficult to hide anything. Besides, the truth is always best. When you tell the truth you don't have to worry about something coming back to haunt you.

At one time California had a state program to assist felons into the trucking business. With the current economy there may be other states with similar programs. The Georgia Unemployment people are pretty aggressive in assisting people to find jobs. You are correct in that this is not the only industry that has more people applying than jobs. Companies are still hiring, but are much more selective in their hiring practices. I have people calling every week looking for a job.

As I see it you have a couple of problems. First are the felonies. Second is your lack of experience. If you cannot find something and have the resources you could always get your own truck and authority. As far as I know insurance companies don't do criminal background checks. Neither do shippers and brokers. It isn't easy or cheap to get your own authority. And this is probably one of the worst times to go this route. But, it is still a way to get what you want.

..well now don't none of yoose guys take this wrong. I'm only trying to offer our "multguest" some advice here.
With unemployment so high, and both non-felons and returning veteran's seeking these jobs, realistically, there are few jobs available.

I think a felons best potentials today are with SEIU and ACORN, whom already have a proven history of hiring felons, a desirable workforce to them. (until Amnesty Bill is past) But it should be pointed out, it is the socialist agenda to get as many people working just long enough to qualify for unemployment. The goal here is to dumb down the lower class, and get you fully dependant on government, and take away any job skills and work ethics you may have had under the capitalist system.

Self-described communist Van Jones (former Green Czar) who now works in a more powerful position with John Podesta and The Center For American Progress, has said he wants to "build a pipeline from the prison economy to the green economy," including hiring parolees to weatherize homes and offices. He secured grants to start a Green Job Corps in Oakland. Judging from his own words, his environmental concerns appear to be a front for creating a massive new welfare program — complete with paid job training and counseling — for criminals.

In his own words; "The green economy will start off as a small subset" of a "complete revolution" away from "gray capitalism" and toward "redistribution of all the wealth," he said. "And we are going to push it and push it and push it until it becomes the engine for transforming the whole society."

The White House is still hiring. Just make sure to tell them that you are a member of the Communist Party and believe in spreading the wealth. Darned capitalists. They like that. And the pay is pretty good.

My first response was a bit chicken shazz. Flush the violence out of your system and stick to dealing weed. Selling a few bags a week will net your more take home than most of us truckers make. Just be discreet and don't get caught again.

To be perfectly honest, trucking kinda sux.

The responses you have received are typical of the mentality you will deal with on a daily basis. Frankly, pure capitalism, communism, or a dictatorship wouldn't affect their respective lots in life. They would still be the low rent bums on the bottom of the socio-economic heap.

Why do you knuckleheads always feel the urge to interject your ignorant (1 a : destitute of knowledge or education also : lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified b : resulting from or showing lack of knowledge or intelligence) politics into discussions.

Actually, I have a very good education and an above average IQ, thank you. You are correct in that I have never been a felon, so I do lack knowledge in that area. I do have some knowledge about politics. I have been involved in several political campaigns. By the way, my guys won. Apparently, being affiliated with known communists and/or socialists is a good background and much sought after quality in the current White House if you look at those who have been recruited in positions such as some of the czars. Lighten up.
