Default Cold Feet/Don't Want To Make A Move I'll Regret!!

Well folks i got a Job offer from a Small Trucking Company (150 Trucks) to run true OTR... Pays .36 a mile avg 2500 miles a week or more with decent equipment.. either an Late Model Volvo/KW/or 09 Pete (which i would love but doubt i get)... but here's where it gets Interesting.. They will try to have you home on the weekends at least for an 34 hr restart and if you don't make it home on the weekend you'll take your 34 on the road and take it get more hometime the following weekend... And another thing is i have to take an hour and 45 min drive to the terminal.. **** thats 3 hours already taken off your 34...

The thing is i want to leave Schneider so bad but i don't know if i want to take the jump.. I am home quite often but this Slip Seating thing is just horrible!! and also there is alot of politics outside of driving a truck that goes on in this place..

So if you was single/young/ambitious what would you guys do??

I would have some money set aside ,3-6 months of expenses, in case something doesn't work out.Leaving a job right now is kind of risky, cause you don't know what is going on on the other side.

Do your homework, don't rush and try to talk to drivers from that company. They can promise a lot,but that doesn't mean it can be reality for you to soon.Best of luck!!!

I'd make the jump. The grass may be greener. I've jumped from a agent to agent in the United system and found a good fit.

Your single? Who cares about hometime. Will they give you the option of taking the truck home? I had a "local" gig once and had a hour drive each way and was home every night, that killed. I say bank up some hometime if they give you that option that's what I usually do like if you run 4 weeks they give you 4-5 days at home etc.

In this economy, i'd stay put. Think of what company will do better in the long run....a small one or a big one (for the most part). The grass MAY be greener on the other side....till you get there. But then again, trucking companies always tell you up front exactly what to expect. "home every weekend, 2500-3000 miles a week, no touch freight"....yeah....forgot....there hasn't ever been one company to ever fib toward its drivers.

be my guest....jump ship....then when ma and pa trucking folds by the end of the year (maybe) and you can't get back on with Schneider because you have a bad habbit of getting all butt-hurt with shippers, forgetting you've got a 53' trailer behind you and blowing up a trailer rim/tire....don't come cryin' to this board.

Since you are bragging that you're deleting my PM's to you without reading them, I'll post it here. The fact that everyone will see that you're complaining about them is a side effect brought on by your actions:

He isn't violating any rules by having it there. If you don't want
someone to discuss (or make fun) of something you say, then you
shouldn't say it. Believe me, I know how irritating it is to have your
name used in a sig line - I've had it done several times (the most
recent being golfhobo). But it isn't violating the rules. I suggest you
ask him to remove it yourself. If he refuses, that's his prerogative.
I've asked others to remove my name from their sig line (prior to being
an admin) and have found good results from doing so.

Bear Market Bonus: 7 Great Funds Reopen - Kiplinger.com

    excerpt:

Tucked inside the fund is a slug of distressed debt. Jensen thinks the debt of companies on the verge of or in bankruptcy
can produce returns similar to those for stocks, but with less risk than stocks. If a bond's issuer goes into bankruptcy, the debt is usually converted into stock. As of April 30, Third Avenue had about 5% of its assets in distressed debt, including MBIA, a bond insurer; W&T Offshore, an energy producer; and trucker Swift Transportation.
might be you are throwing stones.

Just a guess here Kevin, but I think you are the one guy who always got picked last for any group activity. Now that you are an adult (well at least in physical size) you try to make up for all the times as a child you were left out...

    LOL...i love it.

but actually, no i was hardly ever picked last for dodgeball. and come high school, I really didn't care too much about whether or not i got 'picked last' or not....and this might be a shock to you, but what people think of me....i really could care less.

And if someone makes a few thousand extra a year more than the next guy, does it really matter who they work for, or how they got it?? LOL....too funny.

I love your 'John Madden' breakdown of my posts, Hawk. But makes me think all you do is watch FOX News WAAAAAAY too much. You've gotta me watching something with all that downtime over at Schneider.

1st. Your sig in response to mines is super super wack and corny!!! Foreal i'm not even offended.. actually i think it should be removed for being completely horrible...

2nd. Yeah Kev, i got some downtime here... Guess where i'm at when there's some downtime?? On the couch or in front of my Xbox, not shooting War Stories with other Super Swifties in the Cafeteria or Day Dreaming in my 100 degree truck sweating a bullet dreaming about a B/S Leasing Plan

3rd. Yes it does matter where your working if your making a couple of extra grand.. Again have fun at Swift... Better you than me..

    4. How are you going to say you don't care what people think but asks the Rev to remove my Sig?? Hmmm... Mind Boggling..

P.S. I might think about doing that... Hmmm, on the side of my New Truck when i Jump ship... and the funny thing is that they pull a few loads out of that Water Plant Daily... Great Stuff.. Your not so bad after all Kev!!!

Hawk, I'd check into the kinds of freight that they run. If it's something that's usually in high demand, even in troubled times, go for it. If not, stay put. I'm in the same boat you are, but the jobs I want involve a shorter commute, rather than a longer one. Also, try to talk to that outfit's drivers. By the way, what company are you trying to get on with?

I'd be pretty careful about jumping ship right at this point. I don't think that the recent economic uptick evidenced by the rise in the Dow is going to last. The number of homes being foreclosed on is just starting. Many, if not most, companies say you'll get 2500 miles a week. Talk to the drivers for that company and ask them what they are getting. Also, maybe you can stay out 3 weeks and then take 4 days off at home if you don't really care about being home that much. I used to do it when I first started and loved seeing the country then going home for a few days like that.

The old addage "the grass is always greener" is never more true than in the trucking business. If you truly hate your present job then I'd say go ahead and give it a try.

LOL....you still have an XBOX. i can't stop laughing. Oh, and you're ALWAYS at home when you have downtime? hardly doubt that. But then again, i'd rather be rollin' earning a paycheck than sitting on my diff playing Harry Potter on my XBOX. And yeah, i sit outside shooting the breeze with other Swift drivers. And you know what?? I can usually get some good tips from other drivers who've been with Swift for a few years. Hate to suprise you, but not every Swift driver has less than a few months experience.

dude, consoles are t3h suck. pc gaming is where it's at. my laptop is probably better than the desktops belonging to this sites' members. alienware's overpriced, cheap looking laptops have nothing on my toshiba qosmio x305.

as for swift, did you know that swift pays better than knight transportation? i'd highly suggest staying away from "red swift".

    Crosby Trucking

They have four different terminals... Each Terminal has a customer that is near by or has a lane going through.. The one in Virginia pulls a lot of Sysco Loads from Harrisonburg and Front Royal.. Also he said quite of few Water Loads from Maine and Pennsylvania...

The three guys i've talked to all said they get miles and are happy... One guy was from the Evansville IN terminal and the other two from the Terminal in Mt. Sidney which is right off of 81 before you get to Exit 235 on I 81 going north bound you can see it from the highway..

VPI i doubt if your interested but they have a terminal in Charlotte, I know you pull out of South Boston so i don't know if your in the Piedmont in NC or In Virginia..
